A perfect place for reflection

There are many stories as to why this place came to be adorned with more than 250,000 crosses but the mood at this place, whether or not you are religious, for me, is spiritual. I am not a religious person but I was in awe of the religiosity of those who took the time to plant these crosses through the... More

I can imagine the Hill of Crosses would be an amazing place to visit when it is not pouring down the rain! Hundreds of thousands of crosses of all types brought here by the faithful. A one-of-a-kind place that is popular with tourists and locals.

Took a drive here with some colleagues while in the country for work. Although I'm not religious, I really enjoyed the experience.

It's a one of a kind place but wasn't worth spending a night in Śiauliai for as there isn't much else to do in town...the hill is compact...so it gets annoying when the bus loads of tourists arrive...still worth a stop though

Many, many crosses, all shapes and sizes, on and around a small mound. Unusual sight, very popular with tourists with a visitor centre near the entrance. People can just turn up and "plant" a cross, apparently any size. Quirky enough to take a walk through even if you are not religious.

It's a place to visit. The cultural and historical importance of this "monument" is really something that you can't stay indifferent. It's amazing and one of a kind.

We wanted to go to Lithuania and a friend had suggested this site as it was not to far from Riga and it would allow us to go into Lithuania, visit a new country, see an interesting site, and turn around to go back to Riga. If you are driving watch for Domantai. This is where you would turn northeast... More

Well, the 'hill' is more of a mound, just a few metres high, and the significance of the crosses is not explained. They were placed there as a symbol of resistance to Russian control and were twice removed during Soviet times. Now, they seem to be a must-see destination for coachloads of older Catholics who devoutly kneel and cross themselves... More

I did it on my way from Riga to Vilnius. Shilai in Latvian or Shialuai in Lithuanian is only 1.5 hrs on a bus from Riga. It's possible to wait for other tourists at Shialuai bus station and share the taxi ride to the hill. The taxi per person should not be more than EUR10 and that includes the return... More
