Beautiful plaza well worth a visit. It has been restored and looks very splendid with bars and restaurants occupying the square. There is a uniformity about the paintwork which helps create the simple clean look to the plaza. Worth a visit if you are staying near by or travelling through - as is the town of Archidona in general with a great selection if restaurants and views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Passed through here whilst touring, it's a pleasant town with an absolutely amazing octagonal central square. We stopped for lunch and had a nice wander around pre and post lunch, very nice and worthy of a short detour to get here.

There is much to delight in the small town - stunning views of the surrounding landscape, a very small but perfectly formed museum, great cafes and inspirational churches. This octagonal plaza is one of the best examples of the Andalusian renaissance its gentle curves and scale makes it the place to sit and watch - luckily there are plenty of very good cafes ...so come for the views, come for the coffee and come to a genuine white village.

I first visited Archidona in 2015,since then I have bought a house and moved to the village/The Ochavada is considered to be probably the best in Andalucia.Lots of events held there throughout the year and the best bars and restaurants in the town are around it.If travelling between Seville and Granada take a detour.its a must.

This is a beautiful octagonal plaza which has recently been nicely restored; 'reforma' in Spain can have the ominous sound of demolition and the use of many tankers-full of concrete to 'restore' an historic building, but this is well done by any standard. There are several bars and little restaurants in the plaza. So far it seems to be kept clear of cars - another nearby plaza ochavada is, vilely, used as a car park and cannot be appreciated at all. Well worth a detour just to see this plaza.

The most important place to visit in Archidona is the Plaza Ochavada. This is an octagonal plaza built between 1786 and 1789, the most important building constructed in the 18th century. Its style is the Spanish Baroque. The builders were the local master builders Francisco Astorga Frias and Antonio Gonzalez Sevillano. The plaza is totally enclosed and has three arches that allow communication with the outside world. Each of the eight facades is different but harmonic with the whole. The walls of the buildings are whitewashed, but there is red brick that gives a contrast. This structure is considered one of the most important Baroque buildings in Andalusia, and one of the most beautiful. The plaza was used for bullfights until 1960. Today it contains the Town Hall and the Tourism Office beside it. The plaza is used for cultural purposes for Holy Week, the August Fair, and the Dog Fair. In 2007 it received the title of First Marvel of the Province of Malaga.

This place is a lot more lively than you’d think - between observing the local kids as well as matriarchs, and an impromptu Renault car show, it is definitively the town center and is fun!
