Great Church
Mar 2020
Really nice church that's very open and welcoming. Has a lovely section detailing the history of the church/christianity/Minster in Dewsbury.

The main church hall is nothing special most of the year but at Christmas it has a Christmas Tree Festival which, for the last 2 years, my (very) young Granddaughter has absolutely loved (and I enjoyed it too).

The refectory cafe is fine and serves food at competitive prices and there usually local jams and chutney's (plus religious artefacts) available in the small shop area by reception.

Toilets available too.

Not my cup of tea
Dec 2019 • Friends
Lovely minster, busy roadside location. Cafe was clean and bright but the food was terrible. I ordered a jacket potatoes with butter, it came crammed in a tiny dish with no butter the potato was microwaved and bruised and hard in the centre. My friends meal a cheese and onion toastie came 10 mins later with a sprinkling of cheese and no onions. My mum's bacon sandwich was cold (the side salad was lovely). If the cafe wasn't as clean and bright as it was i would have given it a poor

Although I live in Dewsbury and walk past the Minster on a regular basis it had been 50 years since I had stepped inside the church where I was christened in and my last visit was with school many many Christmas’s ago.

And was shocked to find how much unlike the the church I remember it has become, the actual service area is tiny and only occupies about a third of the church. The rest now being about the history of the parish church and how it achieved Minster status.

And also one of the wings is now occupied by a lovely cafe with a nice choice of food, coffee and tea and nice and warm.

It’s nice to see how the “Minster” famous for its unique “devils knell” which rings out at Xmas as adapted to the modern world.

A nice visit.

I've lived in and around Dewsbury for years, this was my first visit to the Minster.
It's really impressive, seems so much bigger on the inside!
Very accommodating, and lots of history to see.

The Minister shows much of the history of Dewsbury going back to St. Paulinus's visit in 627 AD. There is a refectory open mornings and lunchtimes for coffee. tea and light meals which has a good atmosphere. There is a car park although the one way street system can make it difficult to find by car.

A lovely place to visit
Oct 2017 • Solo
This is an impressive church ...and a large one. Inside there is a welcome desk with staff in attendance, brochures for free and some to buy, a historic records/display area and a place to eat.
The interior of the church has been upgraded and the floor is shiny and the pews have been removed and replaced with chairs to allow the interior to be used for a variety of events.
There is a large plaque on the wall to Patrick Bronte who was a member of the clergy here and famous for being the father of the three female authors. There is also a plaque to his memory on an exterior wall.
A nice church to visit.

We decided to call in at the cafe in Dewsbury Minster as it is local to the 3 of us and we fancied trying somewhere different. We were not disappointed. After being made to feel welcome when we walked through the main doors, the service in the Cafe was very good too! As for the breakfast sandwiches we ordered, they were delicious! Two of us asked for bacon with mushrooms and the other, sausage. The sandwiches arrived on bloomer bread and were just perfect! Dont remember the last time I enjoyed a sandwich so much. Excellent. Wouldnt hesitate to visit again.
