The medieval center of Colle di Val d'Elsa is on high ground, extending in length on the ridge of a hill, which explains the absence of a large square; in fact, the main town is in the lower part (Colle Bassa), of relatively recent origin (late nineteenth century), and according to the tradition of the Italian province was dedicated to the most illustrious character born in the city, Arnolfo di Cambio.

The square is now an important meeting place for city life, both for its size and location in the heart of Colle Bassa, and because it is a difficult access route - a few meters away, in Via Bilenchi, is the bus stop 131, well known to tourists because it connects Florence to Siena via San Gimignano - and for the presence of a weekly Point of Sale.

From an aesthetic point of view, however, it did not seem exceptional; the most interesting aspect, perhaps, is precisely the view of Colle Alta from below. For the rest it is surrounded by anonymous buildings (including the former railway station) and elements lacking stylistic unity, from the conventional monument to the fallen to the metal fountain that is said to resemble a rise for a wedding cake. Recent Contributions do not add much, including a tacky three-dimensional sign "COLLE" made in large letters (a very common motif in Portugal, but I hoped Italy would be saved) and an obsessive as well as wishful repetition of black and white geometric patterns in the flooring. Perhaps in a square that recalls a great architect and sculptor you could think of something better...

It is the main square of the lower part of Colle di Val D'elsa. The newest area of this medieval center. It was once the place where the Point of Sale took place. The square is divided in the middle by a road. On one side there is a beautiful fountain, on the other the monument to the fallen. It's a social and commercial gathering place. A livable place surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants.

Large square divided by the road on one side there is the monument to the fallen, on the other a fountain, behind the fountain the building that now houses a pharmacy was the city's railway station. The whole square with its elegant palaces and their arcades, together with the neighboring streets are embellished with Christmas lights that in the evening make the square even more beautiful.

In the “new” lower town of Colle di Val d’Elsa is the spacious Piazza Arnolfo do Cambio.
If you come from the Centro Storico this is a real relief, a bustling district with lots of space and lots of activity.
Arnolfo di Cambio incidentally is the most famous resident here and is a well-known architect of the Duomo di Milano.

Good hotel, the town offers little... fortunately there are places to visit in the surrounding area which are relatively close by such as Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra etc... but the period is still wrong...

it is the center of Colle Bassa. subject to renovation (the war memorial that was previously in the center has been moved and the fountain has been inserted on the opposite side in front of the old station)
