Having driven up a fantastic single track road with breathtaking views we arrived in Buttermere village. A tiny village with a small old church, a couple of pubs and a farm shop. We had lunch in the pub which was fine and they then allowed...More

One of my favourite lakes. I did a circuit from Keswick, going by Honister Pass and returning by Newlans Pass - both very beautiful. There are two pubs serving food in Buttermere. The walk round the Lake is very beautiful and very easy - all...More

Buttermere is like many areas in the Lake District, stunning. A body of water surrounded by some beautiful fells which can also be explored. Haystacks, Fleetwith Pike, Grasmoor, Red Pike, Haystacks and the list goes on. The circular walk is a low level one. From...More

This is a very nice place to go for a walk round the lake. It has very nice views all over the lake, even on a rainy day.

The area is not easily accessible with much single track road but the trip is well worth the effort. Useful National Trust car park at one ned of the lake as a base for walking and Bridge Hotel for eating. Complete the trip with a...More

This is a tiny picturesque village in the heart of the lake district. A great place to start a variety of walks.

It was a fairly easy drive to Buttermere from Keswick. We could only walk part of the way due to lack of time. Nevertheless, I felt satisfied that I saw the beauty of lake Buttermere. After that we adjoined to Skye Farm for some refreshment.

Unadorned and just naturally beautiful, nice easy walk round the lake takes approx 2 1/2 hrs at a leisurely pace (5 miles) and a really good choice of 4 places to eat back in Buttermere for any pallette and pocket ...from just an ice cream...More

Buttermere was easily accessible from Keswick via bus 77/77A (22 pound fare for a group of up to 5 people). Get off at the Fish Inn, and the start of the Buttermere hike is fairly obvious if you look around for signs or just follow...More

Buttermere is one of the prettiest lakes in the whole of the Lake District and is sufficiently remote not to have been totally overwhelmed by visitors. We parked up in the National Trust car park and walked down through the village and around the lake...More

Hi, Personally I think that would be difficult. There are a number of styles to negotiate and one section requires you to cycle on the road before returning to the lakeside and that section would be particularly difficult as... More

Hi, we are currently in the Lakes this week and I would recommend Grassmere instead of Buttermere to take dogs. There are several dog friendly hotels and bars in Grassmere. Also lots of great walks for dogs as long as you... More
