Visited here one cold but mainly dry Saturday in February. We did the walk all around Buttermere. It's such a tranquil place and quite a flat walk if you're not into hilly walks! Half way around we visited a pub and had a lovely lunch and a pint! Would recommend it and will be back in summer!

My favourite lake amongst all the ones I saw. We drove to this lake as part of our day long drive visiting all the lakes in the region. Initially we were going to go with Mountain Goats tour company but their route is available on their own website and you can copy it to your google maps and just follow... More

The walk around the lake that we took will take about 2 hours. It is an easy walk with fabulous views of the mountains and sheep on the hillsides.

Living abroad means that we can only visit the Lakes once or twice a year but one place we always visit, whatever the time of year, is Buttermere. Off season, it's one of the quieter parts of the Lakes but at any time of year, the scenery is stunning. From Keswick, there is a choice of routes....Newlands Pass to Buttermere... More

Buttermere lake and the surrounding mountains is a gorgeous spot. Good walks around the lake and for the more adventurous a fabulous ridge walk along the ridge to the south. From Keswick by car it's either a stiff climb over Honister Pass or Newlands valley. This tends to keep the number of tourists down and in winter you can have... More

Just walked around Buttermere lake, what a breathtaking place! Well worth the journey. Saw 5 Dippers, 1 Cormorant, 1 Tree creeper and 1 Woodpecker. It took about 2 hours from start to finish and was an easy mainly flat level footpath to follow. We then stopped in the little craft cafe in Buttermere village for lattes and tea cakes .... More

Buses run from Keswick fairly frequently to Buttermere. There is a beautiful fairly flat walk right around the lake offering stunning views. Highly recommend

I truly love this part if the world. And of all the lakes Buttermere is the finest. It is surrounded by lovely fells, is reached by the awesome Honister Pass. It has a lovely circular walk around it, watch the dark tunnel if you have no torch it is very damp with large puddles.
