I travelled to Manipur with 8 people from 20th March to 26th March 2022. Imphal Walks had organised our tour for 5 nights and 6 days.

Our main intention to visit Manipur in this season was to witness Holi Festival.

Mr.Yai, owner of Imphal Walks, is very talented and informative person. He has a complete information about Manipur history and 2nd World War. He showed us different Memorials, Palace etc. His planning was really upto the mark. He selected very good hotels for accomodation. We spent 4 nights in Imphal and 1 night at Loktak Lake. We could witness Halangkar Celebration of Holi, Local cultural dance and Moonlight Dance which was the main attraction of this tour.

Overall Mr.Yai organised a very nice tour for us and we are really very much thankful to him for a lovely company. I strongly recommend Imphal Walks for Manipur Sightseeing.

Well organised, flexible, in depth knowledge... what else would you expect from a local tour company when you are on tour with family.
Mr. Yahi, punctual in time, everyday to guide in 'Jewel of India'
Fabulous week spent in Manipur.
Thambal Chumba, Nyngbi, Traditional dance programme, Myanmar Road, N number of war Memorials, Loktak lake ( spare me for some spellings😆) are the highlights.
A life time experience @ Manipur.
Must try the local rice wine, Moonlight dance.
Would certainly recommend Yahi & his team to take with you when you are in Manipur.
Cheers 🍻

Yaiphaba is one of the leading experts in Manipur on World War II and is immensely knowledgeable on all the battle sites in the state and also in neighbouring Nagaland and Myanmar. It was a memorable guided tour down the Tiddim Road where Yai explained every heritage site and also shared lesser known interesting facts. Apart from the war history, Yai had also explained very well on various contemporary topics, social issues and local culture.
Imphal Walks is highly recommended for those interested in a cultural immersive tour of Manipur.

Yai (Yaphaba Kangjam) and I spent some four days together airport pickup to airport drop. I had reached out to him mainly for the battlefield tours, but one thing led to another and we covered a bunch more than sites related to WWII impact on Manipur.

There are other tour operator / guides in Manipur, but really doubt if there is anyone around who is even a scratch as far as WWII goes. The multi year, detailed and painstaking research exhibits itself in every piece of conversation and at every site. There is no way in hell one can locate these sites on one's own without pouring through material for years.

If you are not a WWII enthusiast, you might get a little bored in about a day. But, Yai does take you to other places as well if you want. His understanding of the history and culture is enough to keep you entertained as well.

Bottomline - if you are wanting to go to Manipur - go with Yai!

Yai is one of the most well informed tour operators in Imphal. His knowledge of Imphal and World War II is unbelievable. He has also written a book called Japan Loan (war) which explains how Japanese were defeated and made to retreat from India during WW II. Very unassuming, always on time and ready to help, Yai made our trip memorable. Any trip to Manipur is incomplete without Yai. We were a group of 12 senior citizens and visited Manipur beginning Dec 2022. Thanks

We went on an excellent and informative tour of Kangla Fort and IMA market. Our guide Yai was very informative, knowledgeable and interesting! We learnt lots about this fascinating area including the history and culture. The price was extremely fair and Yai was friendly and light hearted the whole way. I would recommend getting in touch with him during your stay in Manipur as a must!

We went to Manipur mainly to see the brow-antlered deer (sangai) at Keibul Lamjao, the unique floating wildlife sanctuary on Loktak lake. While the lake, with its floating clumps of vegetation (phumdi) is still very scenic (especially when the picnicking hordes have left) things have worsened. Gaudily festooned floating obscenities belching loud music now cruise the lake like obese gondolas in drag, and the waterfowl keep far away. At the park too, the deer are increasingly difficult to see (there being only 204 of them) and we actually visited the sorry enclosure in the Imphal zoo later to see them up close.
Given that the state has greater priorities than leisure tourism and DIY travel does not work well here, we were fortunate that our guide, Yaiphaba of Imphal Walks, chalked out an enjoyable, varied and enriching program that added so much more to the wildlife experience we had planned on.
We visited the RKCS (Rajkumar Chandrajitsana Singh) Art Gallery, a vivid and ongoing- the artist's son was painting in the courtyard- record of Manipur's history in oils. (Look out for the pile of old movie posters and other charming curios in a side room). We also visited the Andro cultural village museum complex for a glimpse of local tribal lifestyles. The Ima women's market is especially colourful and our guide seemed to know everybody, which made our visit, sampling exotic fruits and comestibles, interactive and great fun. Yai also knew his way around local red-tape and manoeuvred us smoothly through locked gates and closing times, to ensure that we got to see everything, while his explanations added meaning to it all.
However, our strongest recommendations come for the World War ll component of the tour. The 70th anniversary of the Battles of Kohima and Imphal had just been celebrated, and it was a revelation to know that this largely forgotten episode in history was voted “Britain’s Greatest Battle “ by the British National Army Museum in 2013. Yai is an expert and an enthusiast on the Imphal Kohima theatre of conflict and is able to present all viewpoints in a graphic and enlightening manner that brings the battlefields and war memorials to life. We saw General Slim’s cottage in Kangla fort, the various war cemeteries, the Red Hill memorial, the INA museum, the Tiddim Road battle-sites etc, and Yai’s exposition of the human angle to the battle and his anecdotes of what the war meant to the Manipuris made for an engrossing tour.
Imphal Walks is professionally-run, and Yai is not just knowledgeable and efficient, but friendly and patient as well. His enthusiasm for Manipur and its attractions is infectious, and he is, I dare say, the best raconteur the Battle of Imphal could have.

Yaiphaba Kangjam (Yai) of Imphal Walks took me on a memorable and highly recommended tour of the Battle of Imphal sights outside Imphal and on the India-Burma road. This was one of the major battles of World War Two, and Yai is an excellent, professional and knowledgable guide who can make the history come alive, while at the same time acting as a true historian - questioning sources and presenting different perspectives on the battles. We also visited Imphal's war cemeteries and did a very enjoyable and interesting walking tour of Imphal's markets. I highly recommend Yai for anyone visiting Imphal, whether they are deeply knowledgable about Manipuri and WWII history, or coming as curious tourists.

This guy really is a professional. I have a background in anthropology and history, so I came to Imphal with a knowledge of the Northeast. However, I was very impressed by my guide and his level of knowledge and enthusiasm for his home city. I doubt there is anyone as good in the entire Northeast. We had a great, albeit short, tour and he could answer most of my very niche questions. I would highly recommend the experience to anyone.

We met Yai (operator of Imphal tours) while at the Kangla Fort when he was training a new guide. As he introduced himself to us, he offered to take us on a tour of the fort. He was very informative, helpful, and most of all, genuine in wanting to show us Imphal. The next day he offered suggestions for us when we went to Loktak Lake, and also let us know about live music at a local hotel.

Great guy, runs tours professionally, and even will custom make a tour if you have a relative who fought near Imphal,

We had a great time exploring Kangla with Yai (including exploring General Slim's cottage--or perhaps more aptly, Scoones's) and would highly recommend it to others!
