Keep walking! Some of the best parts of the beach are away from the crowded sea wall area. There are a couple crazy restaurants that have an invisible order list of who is next to have a chair on the beach like De Luz. But all the cool restaurants with chairs use first come first serve. They are where you want to go. Otherwise just park and bring your own chair. The whole beach is public!

Kalamata has much potential. 2 hour easy drive from Athens Greece and an International airport, Marina and deep water for Yachts. The swim-able beach coastline is about 9 kilometers.
The beaches are mostly raw with disorganized beach venues, no service or a quality setting.
Having said that, it is very beautiful, the sea and the mountains and the quaint fishing towns. If you want a nice beach day and sunset, go to Yanina Kai Parea Beach Lounge. (Fabulous and Beautiful) If you like to rough it, go to Akti Beach Cafe. (Limited services and facilities)

Clean waters and great cafés nearby. Ideal for families with small children. I Always go when I'm close to the region. Definitely worth it!

This is a very beautiful area, the sea, the mountains, the greenery. Location is good, easy 2-hour drive from Athens. An airport, deep water Marina, the area is wonderful.
The local cuisine is very mediocre, mostly mystery food and frozen. Nothing that fresh, cheap eats, cheap liquor and no real hospitality. Not very clean along the beach or the main beach street, Navarinou. Too much graffiti, the buildings private and government are in shambles and do not resemble the photos. It is not quaint and more a waste of time and money. If you are on a budget and quality is NOT important, or cleanliness, this place is for you. Otherwise, drive to Costa Navarino, or Mani area.

One of the greatest beaches of Messinia, ideal for a lovely walk, with lot of beach bars, where you can enjoy cockteils or food in one of the most hospitable Greek cities. You can see people swimming and the winter, as temperatures in Kalamata are always high. Kalamatas beach is about 4 klm starting by lighthouse and finish about Filoxenia Hotel. Also there are several cycling. There are lot of tavern's with delicious Greek food and the most of these they have the tables beside the coast. If someone want to buy traditional things there are two shops that you can find. Furthermore in the long way beach can anyone taste yummy ice cream from the pastry and see the beautiful sunset. Enjoy it!!

Kalamata is a place you will never forget and will always desire to return to. It is ideal for every need. Historic yet simple and magical. The beach is endless, the food delicious and the filoxenia unmatched. Close your eyes as you hear the melodious waves and smell the salty and warm therapeutic water.

This beach is mixture of sand and pebbles of each size. If you are a fan of sandy beaches you could be disappointed. The beach is more sandy the first 50 m from the port. Deckchairs belong to restaurants and pubs along the street. You can stay there if you buy only one item e.g. a bottle of beer for 2,5 - 3 euro, or icecream. The sea is so deep for small children. Seven meter is enough to have water in the level of your neck. If you want to walk on the sand bed of the see you have to walk through stones area wide 1-2 meters.

Many wast their time and money running from island to island not knowing that on the mainland there is a beach haven only a 2 hour drive or 20 min flight from Athens. Kalamata beach is 2-3 kilometers of beach bars/cafes with sunbeds (not charged) . in a town big enough to have its own shopping districts, nightlife and entertainment.

The beaches in Kalamata are great, the public one you find first is a bit grubby but OK for a quick dip. Keep your bags safe here, as it's very open and can be busy.
I'd recommend keeping walking and going to the ones further along the road, the ones with umbrellas and beds, they're free as long as you buy something from the bar.
Kalamata is a great resort, with a lovely long street full of shops and cafes and coffee shops open until late. Many locals and Greeks holiday here for a very good reason!

Kalamata beach is a beautiful sweeping arc of sand, which is well equipped with free sun loungers and sunshades provided by the beachfront cafes.

Does anyone know is it an easy walk from Grecotel Filoxenia into Kalamata, is it hilly or flat?
Can you walk along the front to town?
Are there cafes and bars on the way to stop at? Or is it better to use a bus or taxi?
Any information on the area gratefully received! Travelling in May.

There is a frequent bus which goes into Kalamata and runs on time and passes places of interest and the marina (good place for dining out)

Bonjour,
Quel temps peut-on avoir en Octobre ? La location de voiture est cher ? Il faudrait compter combien ? Quels sont les excursions à réaliser ? Des coins à éviter ?

Bonjour,
Merci,
