- Ian H17 contributionsA museum with its immaculate collection not to be missed. This was an amazing museum with up to date technology where you could use a tablet whilst walking around to give you information and different views of each costume in our own language. There were three levels of costumes and jewellery, displayed in climate controlled cabinets. It really was stunning to see such a collection and made our visit to Kalamata special. Thank you to the staff who were welcoming and gave lots more information and answered questions knowledgeable.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 4, 2023
- SCagraySanta Cruz, California1,870 contributionsWonderful museum. This is an excellent museum. The team is very knowledgeable AND friendly. They took time to explain the museum, answer questions and get to know a bit about us. The museum itself is put together beautifully. Exhibits are excellent and exquisite. The tablets with information on each costume bring another level of the experience which was of the highest value. Highly recommended!!Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 4, 2024
- SimonSJOLondon, United Kingdom131 contributionsAn amazing museum to rival any anywhere in the world. This is a museum that would rival or better any in London for the quality of the display and the way to understand what was on display via touch screen displays. Really should be picked up by bigger institutions. The clothes are beautiful and display the evolution of Greek costume as well are regional variations. The staff were hugely informative and were rightly proud of where they are working. This is a private collection and I just wish I could see more. One warning, the entrance door is locked and you need to ring the bell!Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 22, 2024

We visited the museum while exploring Old Town Kalamata during the off-season. The museum has a beautiful collection of Greek clothing from different regions and time periods. The friendly staff was more than happy to answer all our questions and the stationary, interactive tablets were a great aid.

What a stunning, jaw droppingly beautiful experience.
Don't be put off by the shut door, just ring the bell and see an amazing collection of costumes from all over Greece.
I could not believe the beautiful handwork with precious threads and fabrics that have lasted through the years.
The display is clever, the people are lovely and after all my travels this was a stand out experince

Loved every single thing about this beautiful museum. The costumes are beautiful and someone obviously thought a lot about how to design the museum to maximize the beauty—dark (purple?) walls with well placed lighting. Each display is accompanied by a screen that describes the costumes, where they were worn, and includes high-res images of each thing that you can turn and enlarge with your fingers. The women working there were incredibly kind and knowledgeable. They also have a small shop in the back with a gorgeous and well-curated collection of things—earrings, scarves, ceramic dolls—that are related to the style of the jewelry and garments in the museum.

The restoration of a stunning 19th C building in the heart of the Old part of Kalamata is exceptional. The collection is beautifully displayed and has a fantastic breadth of traditional clothing. This was my third visit and will by no means be my last - every time I've been I notice something new. We received a warm welcome and a brief, well presented introduction and then we're left to our own devices. If you are anywhere near or in Kalamata this is a must see museum.

Richly displayed space of traditional Greek costumes from all regions of Greece, including an extensive jewelry collection. LCD displays showcase each costume from various angles with short descriptions & their origins on a map. Hand-held tablets are available as well.
Small nooks throughout building hold additional treasures. There is an outdoor area with tables & chairs & a small exquisite gift show.
Allow yourself time to take it all in.
Staff is extremely knowledgeable, helpful & English is flawlessly spoken.
A fabulous experience.

Impressive museum with a large collection of ceremonial costumes. Very well presented and preserved.
The team welcomes you very well, they explain how to tour the museum, they introduce you to the topic and when you finish, they answer your questions and say goodbye with a smile.
They also have temporary exhibitions.
I recommend visiting them!

You won't find a similarly fantastic collection of costumes that are presented in such a loving way. We were absolutely delighted by the unique exhibits that make Greek tradition tangible and tangible. And all of this in a carpenter's house that has been superbly renovated. You have to ring the bell to get in and you are greeted and accompanied in a very friendly manner. You can also see the enthusiasm in the employees. Absolutely recommended! A must-see when visiting Kalamata. It's worth the entrance fee. .
