Nice park with lots of shade inviting you for a nice Sunday stroll, only a few blocks from the city buzz...

It is unclear for what
Jun 2019
It's not exactly a park. And especially not the railway park, although the cars, locomotives and even a kind of train station are there. And certainly not railway museum, for all these objects and structures there just there without any educational purpose, not formalized  respectively, no signs, no planks with descriptions. For all time of my stay there I didn't see any curious person near this "rolling stock". It is rather the usual town boulevard in which there are trees, playgrounds and also - unclear why - the old railway equipment.

Poignant and interesting

The Railway park has a somewhat sad feel to it, with several rusting engines and a few carriages, but it is fun to wander around (and above on a footbridge). Very nostalgic feel and worth a visit when strolling from the centre of town to the beach or port.

Not so interesting

park was in way from our house to the center. It is much better to go through trees and shadow than on hot street.
But park in general is not in good conditions and there are only 5 -6 locomotives with wagons without any relevant information.
Not obligatory to visit

Some years ago a major of the city had the good idea to transform the south part of Kalamatas main street to a park. As the railways connecting the main station with the port also were lined down along the street, they also collected old trains and put them there as an attraction. In the first years, it would earn a 5 points review. Unfortunately, with the crisis the whole park isn't maintained up to its potential anymore, that's why I set a point less.

Worth visiting

Excellent for long walks, decent, clean, safe. The old trains are accessible to children and they can have lots of fun. Highly recommended.

Not really a railway park but more a scrap yard waitng for rust to eat the displays. So sad that this is not loved and it appears not to have had money spent on it for years.

The railway museum situated in the centre of Kalamata in the old railway station. Suitable for everyone, who is fan to trains. But all trains are locked, so you can´t get inside. The entrance to th emuseum is free. In this area you can find a small restaurant, a playgroud for children and some atration as a rocket and a adults workout playground too.

The train doesn't run here anymore, but it's a great park with lots of old locos to clamber about on

Close by the port are the remains of the railroad that used to link Kalamata to Pireaus. The new highway provides a much better transport link than the old tracks, but it was a good idea to leave some of the old locomotives and carriages here as a reminder. Great place for kids to climb around and explore. The park also has a bar with snacks and drinks. Bicycle rental nearby.

A park buildt around the former Railway Station.
The station is a café.
On the old tracks ther are old railway engines and carriages.
It looked like children loved it.
Location is in the center of Kalamata.
