Sarod Ghar is a little gem hidden inside the by lanes of Gwalior. Not many people are even aware of this place. This is the ancestral house of noted Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. The museum is well maintained and contains various mementos received by Ustad Hafiz Khan (father to Amjad Ali Khan). The museum explain how the Afghan harp slowly got converted into the modern day Sarod. The ancient instruments are on display also with the various awards and citations received by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his father. The museum is well maintained and is an oasis of calm in the busy area of Gwalior. There is a friendly manager in charge (forget his name) who showed us around with deep interest. This is not very high in the tourist circuit but highly recommended to those who have a love for music.

Sarod Ghar is one of the musical heritage in the account of Gwalior. Though initially ignored and not taken due care of; this musical legacy is now well-maintained and invites classical musical lovers to it.

I would like to emphasize and try to spread the awareness towards this forgotten jewel of India. Former residence of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan Bangash(one of the most celebrated Sarod artists in the world); this place is remodeled as a museum where one can find all sorts of Sarods(a musical instrument pertinent to India) : new and old, ones with historical significance, and ones never seen. It as a plethora of information about Indian Classical music history.
A not to be missed place in Gwalior if you love to be informed about different facets of Indian art and culture.

Gwalior is the land of Tansen. Nice to see such a good collection of Sarods (musical instrument). They have a decent and varied collection. Definitely find it amazing.
