Lot of stories can be heard about this temple. Built in both South Indian and north Indian style this temple has faced many invasion and attacks. Origin of this temple is not sure in which period it was made.
Present state of this temple is not so good. Outside structure stand tall with beautiful carving. Inside temple is empty and manifest with bats

After completing the visit of Gwalior fort we visited this monument of India's ancient heritage. it is Mandir or Temple, which does not have any idol for worship and is housed within the Gwalior fort complex. It is the highest and one of the oldest structures in Gwalior. Its height is believed to be about 100 feet high and is really an architectural beauty built in Dravidian and Buddhist style. It was probably a temple of Lord Shiva and was believed to have been damaged during the rule of Moghul emperor Aurangzeb. Later during British rule two English engineers renovated it and restored many stone carvings built on the walls of the structure. In recent times the archeological department has installed pillars and beams inside the mandir to avoid its fall and save the structure from further damage. The entry ticket for the fort entitles the visitors to get free entry to this monument also.

An architecture marvel. Although the name suggests a Mandir (temple), dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, there is no idol inside to pray. However the architecture of the complex is truly splendid, said to be in the Gurjara-Pratihara -Gopagiri style

Teli ka Mandir was apparently built by Oil traders in Gwalior, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, as told by our guide. The architecture of the temple is great from each corner.

A beautiful temple on the hill-top. This is next to the Gurudwara data Bandi Chhod. Very southern architecture. The temple exterior and the grounds are very well maintained. Interior not so and has been taken over by elements.
Thanks to the Archaeology official that we met.. It is said that the temple was built during the 9th Century invasion of Gwalior (then ruled by the Gujjara dynastry) by the Southern rulers (Rashtrakutas who came upto Kannauj). The name from Telangana or Telugu became Teli and was shortened to Teli.. and the oil story was later formed.

A tall Jain stone temple built during the 9th century stands up on the fort.The old Jain statues are simple but well preserved.

A hybrid temple of two styles of temple structure and amalgamated into a single structure. The front portion has been plastered by the British but still u can see the original structure. Actually the king's wife was from Telganaga and hence it was named as Teli ka Mandir but ASI gives some other reason for this temple existence.

Its a huge temple , and nicely kept only challenge like Gwalior fort lots of bats and foul smell around the temple ,architecture wise a must see .

I do not understand the empathy of ASI towards some of such beautiful sites where you may find a maintained garden but the main temple unbearably stinks of the bats

A place which looks good with all the beautiful carvings but inside it was smelling of bats! ASI or govt can surely do a better job than just selling tickets.

How to visit this place and other nearby places inside the fort like Gopachal parvat, Gurudwara, Teli temple etc. Can we take cab to all these places?
