What a great little beach this is, lovely white sands and a shallow slope into the water ideal for young children, great local amenities within spitting distance also.

Can get busy, but a lovely place to visit. Shallow water for about 20 metres, water clear blue. Plenty of restaurants all along the front. Fantastic.

Being winter time obviously the beach wasn't as busy as it would be in the summer. It had all the facilities and a safe beach, ideal for families. Looked very good.

Lovely place to lay on the warm sand (no chair necessary) and/or swim in the sea. The water wasn't too cold (in mid-November), and it was nice and clean, as was the beach. Like the other beaches on (in?) Cyprus, you need to pay a...More

Laranaca is the nearest airport About 60km and 1 hours drive, Car rental is easy and in Cyprus they drive on the left same as UK. It is a pretty straightforward drive along the A3.

There are several water sports piers along the beach where you can hire pedalos or do parasaling/jet ski or go on boat trips. I’m not sure if you meant hiring a boat without a pilot or going on a boat trip... but plenty of... More

Most car parking spaces are free but it was hard to find a place to park the car because we arrived around 10:30 am. We found a car park behind the place called “Flamingo beach bar”, you park there and pay 10€ and you get a... More

Area Information (2 Replies)
This coming September, we are going to stay in a friends appartment for two weeks in the Paralimni/Protaras area. We have been told that the nearest beach is Fig Tree Bay. Any thoughts on the area - good or bad - would be most welcome. We like good food/wine, restfull beaches, historical sites, the occasional shopping trip, people watching, walking, being warm, etc.

Paralimni is not near Protaras but Protaras is included within the municapility of Paralimni!! Paralimni is a village approximately 5 miles from Protaras itself. Pernera is a suburb of Protaras and is also included in the municipality of Paralimni - all very confusing. Regular buses to Paralimni - takes about 25 minutes and well worth having a trip. Same distance to Ayia Napa in the opposite direction. If the nearest beach is Fig Tree Bay then you must be located at the far end of the main...More

The green gunge in the sea at Nissi Beach (0 Replies)
Just got back today after 2 glorious weeks in the sun. What's the deal with the green algae stuff that is clogging up the sea at Nissi beach? Every morning we saw a squad of guys with a fishing net trying to remove some of the stuff - but they don't have a chance of even making a dent in it. It doesnt seem to affect Fig Tree Bay, Napa harbour or Sandy Bay. It's a shame, 'cos Nissi is such a great beach, and the algae takes away some of the pleasure of going for a swim to cool off.

Beach Attendants (4 Replies)
Hi We had two weeks in Protarar, Sept 2nd to 16th. and spent everyday on Fig Tree Bay Beach. While we were there we witnessed the arrest of 13 beach attendants including Chris and Tony from Fig Tree Bay. This was reported in the local "Cyprus Mail" Here is a short extract from the paper dated 15th Sept. "All 13 Paralimni beach workers suspected of embezzling a reported €500,000 by pocketing the takings from sunbed rentals have been released to be charged at a later date, police said...More
