The church was beautifully situated on a mountain side. The dirt road on the way there ended up turning into a rocky ditch-ridden trail. I felt compelled to abandon my rental car and walk the remaining 2 km there. The church was small but beautiful from the outside. Really not much to see inside, although the sound of hundreds of buzzing bees was pretty intense. Not sure if it was worth risking the rental car and the 4 km round trip walk.

The Cave Church in Protaras isn’t overly easy to find, but when you do it’s a spectacular find. Initially first impressions for the four of us that made the trip weren’t overly good but upon entering the church it’s a wow. Very well preserved and certainly something very different. Worth spending some time searching for it because once found it’s a memory which will stay with you for a long time.

This is a small Greek Orthodox church at the entrance of a cave very close to Protaras. If you have a car, I would suggest you use the WAZE app and it will get you there very easily. We have visited Protaras many times and never knew this place existed.

What a beautiful little church. I'm not religious really but the feeling you get when you walk in is something I haven't experience before. The touching little alter and the time taken to.hide this church away is magnificent. Only takes 20 mins to see all and read through some things but well worth the visit. History at your feet...beautiful. You need transport to visit though.

We tried to find this little gem 2019 but failed. So 2020 we were not leaving until we succeeded. OMG. Such a beautiful place. I got very emotional at the site of this little gem. It's well worth the walk

Arrived @10am today after a slow drive down the very bumpy roads with wilderness on either side. The soldiers were firing in the hills. We were the first to arrive and had to open the iron bolt across the door. So cool and dark inside with so many icons &pictures of the saints all around. We stayed an hour both inside and out looking at the lovely views.
So glad we visited. We locked up and drove carefully back down the bumpy roads.Glad we decided to drive and not walk.
Definitely worth a visit!

It’s a warm walk from protarus up a long road 10% incline but it was worth the effort. Real little gem is at the end. Please take water as it’s in the middle of no where.

We hired a car for a few days which is the only reason we visited, It would be quite a walk on foot.
We arrived around 10am and the door was shut but there is no lock so can open the door and go in. It really is an amazing little place and in my opinion definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
