Microfilm Machine.
Oct 2021
I was very surprised and happy on my latest visit to discover that you’re once again allowed to use the microfilm machine here. It’s a tremendous resource. There are cleaning before-and-after notes to guide people using it.

These days Larne Library is open a generous six days a week. They shut Sundays, open from 10am to 5pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, open 2pm to 8pm Thursdays and 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.

The place is huge inside, and there’s a great number of books on the shelves to choose from.

When you leave, do take a look down the road for the recently-added sculpture by Kevin Killen. He makes metal pieces with words all over them. I like it.

Great place

I take my young children regularly and find it a very relaxed atmosphere, spotlessly clean and well organised. The staff are very friendly and attentive, definitely a showcase for a worthwhile public facility.

Been a few times for different needs and always treated with courtesy and helpfulness.
Cannot imagine horrible behaviour! Would have been an excellent rating if they had offered tea and sandwiches.

Saturday morning & the story teller can be heard reading with the kids who have gathered round to listen. Lots of laughs from the children, and a craft related to the story afterwards. The story is enjoyed by lots of adults too who "earrie wig". And where would you get this for free? And if you want you can have a coffee or hot chocolate from the machine.

Good for study.
May 2017 • Solo
Larne's library is on a street busy with traffic, so pedestrian visitors have to push a button and wait to cross the road on arriving or leaving. The building is very spacious inside, and there are lots of chairs for people to relax while reading or studying. They can even have some children's storytime away in one corner and you're undisturbed working off in another area. I was here again for the microfilm copies of the newspaper Larne Times and Weekly Telegraph. Great resource. I brought a cushion this time, to sit a fraction higher. The chairs in that corner are good, adjustable ones. Ramps outside for wheelchairs, all on a level inside. Free entry.

1923
Aug 2016 • Solo
I needed to find out the circumstances of the death of one of my town's World War 1 veterans. He passed away in 1923. In Carrickfergus public library the microfilm reel for the newspapers in 1923 was absent. Here, in Larne library, on was present. We lost Alfred Adams in a motorcycle crash. A missing piece of a story has been found.

This place is great. Books to borrow, more than a century of newspapers, computers and more - all for free.

Larne has a wonderful wee library on my last visit with my other half we read the local papers resesrched a few health problems . After that we relaxed with tea and coffee you can also use the computers and the school kids take advantage of them. Ive taken my grandchildren here and they had a great time with lots of books to choose. The library also run special days for kids and adults alike. The staff are friendly and the only diwnside is they keep moving the chairs and tables around why ive no idea . X

Thank you for your kind review of Larne Library, I am glad you enjoyed reading the free newspapers and used the computers to research. It is always good to hear the different ways our library members use Libraries NI services. On your next visit please ask staff about the chairs, they will be happy to explain. Kind Regards Maria Higgins Temporary Area Manager Libraries NI
