Interesting story, great cider
Sep 2019
First farm on the Cider route in Ulvik.

Family driven apple farm with an interesting story. We got to taste the apples, the cider, both with and without alcohol. Great selection and great taste. Nice to learn about the history of the farm and also see how they produce the cider.

Still a bit to go on on the presentation from the owner(s).

The thing to do in Ulvk

We recent
We stayed in Ulvik for two days and took a private tour of the cider producers located in town. We used the BActive tour company also in town. Our guide and BActive manager, Remco, was great. He is well informed and very thorough. The tour starts with a short hike up a road where the last of the three main producers is located. It is the largest of the three and a real commercial facility with a beautiful patio and tasting area. The owner operator is very friendly and has ventured into spirits as well as cider. All apple based. We tasted both the liqueur and "whiskey". Really excellent. Unfortunately because of the arcane liquor laws in Norway you can't buy the liquors at his facility. Nearest state run outlet is in Voss! (By the way that goes for wine as well...stock up before you leave Voss or Bergen...). We visited two other cider producers along the road. The others were much smaller, one being a working family farm with a variety of homemade products including jams and meats. The final one run by the "professor" of cider in Norway. All in all a wonderful introduction to a unique Norwegian business. And a great view of the village and fjord below. The tour ended with a generous tasting at the Strand Hotel where BActive is based. This is a must do if you have the time and try and get a Remco as your guide. Well worth it!

Rain ruined it

It would've been a much better experience if it wasn't raining but the apples and cherries were delicious.

Nice but expenssive.

When we got there they weren't really interested in an elderly couple and could hardly bothered to talk with us. The prices of their products were quiet high thou what we bought we enjoyed.

Quaint village worth the drive
Jun 2015 • Couples
The owner was extemely nice and cordial. We bought 3 types of apple juice. The man told us the Queen of Norway had ordered several bottles for a party she was having. I have to admit, she has good taste. He bottles the apple juice in the purest form. He grows the apples, juices them then puts them in a bottle. That's it. That's why a bottle only last a few weeks then it starts turning brown. Overall I enjoyed the ride to the village and recommend making a detour there if you're in the area.

Great experience - a 'must do'
Aug 2013 • Family
On our last day in Ulvik, we visited Hakastad, which was a great experience and highly recommended. It is a very straightforward 15-20 minute walk from the village centre, with breathtaking views all the way. The tour (involving about eighteen English, Australian, Dutch and Norwegian visitors) started at about 1pm and was given by the very affable owner Asbjorn. He is a really lovely chap, who gives a detailed talk which is interesting, without being dry or dull. After having an explanation of the juice and cider making process and seeing the equipment, we were led to an attractive tasting room, where we sat to sample the range of apple juices and ciders. It was a very relaxed and enjoyable experience with much banter and laughter as well as additional information. Unusual for Norway, it is possible to buy the lower alcohol cider direct from the producer, which we did as a gift to take home. Make time to visit this producer if you are in the Hardanger region.
