My 18 y.o daughter and myself did the 2 hr Husky safari, absolutely loved it. We did the shared ride option where you share the driving and riding as a passenger ( as a passenger you can take great photos) was great to experience both. We had two girls in our group who were nervous about driving but staff were very helpful and at the end of the trip both were glad they had a go at driving the sled.. The two hour trip was long enough to get a good feel for the experience as it was very cold but we didn't " freeze" . Staff were very capable and obviously love their dogs (over 200 dogs and they know all by name) Highly recommend the tour, we finished with a warm drink and cake inside a nice warm building with a fire then visited the puppies. You are supplied with overalls and warm gloves/ boots if required.

My teenager and I absolutely LOVED this. You get to drive the sledge yourself with 6 dogs and even though it was expensive at 190 Euro's per person it was so worth it and i'd totally recommend if you do nothing else you do this.
We were picked up from our hotel and driven to the Husky farm where they give you winter gear if you don't already have it and the instructions you need to safely drive the sledge.
The dogs were really excited to be out and all look well cared for and clearly love what they do. We were lucky enough to get to cuddle some 6 week old puppies and a delicious lunch was included.
Can't rave about it more it was the highlight of our trip!

Where to begin? First of all we got picked up at our hotel, when we arrived at the Husky Farm we got some useful and needed instructions for operating the sledge. Besides that did our instructor check if we had the right clothing so we wouldn't get cold. Especially for the passenger who just sits inside the sledge for half the tour. The dogs are amazing and well trained, they are also very used to people and are very keen to get this run started. I think these dogs are brilliant when they run, they know where to go and check from time to time to make sure you are still on the ride. We've got a racing team, these guys ran like crazy and were the fastest of all!
After the run, we got some nice soup and more information about the company and what they do. They also had some new pups that needed to get used to people, so we went out for some cuddles!
If you've never done anything like this before or have any doubts, don't! This is an experience you don't want to miss!
Thank you to the whole team for taking care of us, but most of all thank you for taking good care of these dogs!

Of all the amazing things we did in our Xmas stay in Finland this was by the far the best. The activity was well planned and our lead guide was friendly and explained how things would work very clearly.
We didn't expect to drive the team ourselves and once you get the feel of it it's exhilarating. You do a 10km track with a chance to swap from being a passenger to a driver at half way. The views are amazing and the silence...well it's like a dream, just you and the dogs gliding through a winter wonderland. Words can't explain how magical that felt and we will remember that feeling forever.
When we got back we had a chance to spend time with the dogs and they were extremely friendly. When you first arrive they seem quite wild and almost aggressive but when you get to pat them later they are all lovely and affectionate and love a good belly rub!
Lunch afterwards was good and we got to ask lots of questions about the dogs which was interesting.
Finally we had a chance to play with the puppies, including seeing a 2 week old new born pup. SO CUTE!!!!
Overall a fabulous experience with healthy, happy dogs and one we recommend for everyone that heads to this amazing part of the world

It was extremely cold, -22C, but the huskies were so lively! You could hear them from far. We were with a big group, but the guides took all the time to explain how we had to drive the sledge. Every 3 sledges had a guide so they keep an eye on you all the time. The huskies were very lively and eager to run. The nature is beautiful. After an hour, we were back and we said goodbye to our dogs. To warm up we were served warm berry juice next to a campfire. The guide shared much more information with us.
Highly recommended for all ages!

We visited as part of our activities when we stayed at the Wilderness Resort Muotka.
We were able to drive a team of 6 huskies. The dogs loved what they were doing and the staff obviously love their dogs. Riding behind the dogs in the quiet was lovely. No noise like on a snow mobile. It was peaceful and the scenery beautiful. Driving the team was easier than you think. The dogs know just what to do!
The warm juice and cookies was welcome at the end. There was also an option of warm soup by the fire. It was cute seeing the puppies and learning a little about the dogs.
The only down side was that the ride finished so soon.
If you don’t have warm gear you can borrow some when you are there.
I would highly recommend this activity it was so much fun!

The sound of barking by the excited dogs greeted our approach. The guides gave clear instructions, efficiently harnessed the dogs to the sledge, and sent us off on our exhilirating ride through the snow-covered forest. Afterwards we had a chance to pet the dogs on our team and to see the puppies of varying ages.

My partner and I recently visited the husky farm for a summer walk in the woods with a husky each and then a tour of the husky farm. We got to see all sorts of different huskies and working dogs, as well as meeting some of the new puppies! Our guide was very friendly and full of information. We would love to come again in winter for a sled ride!

To wrap up an Arctic adventure, don't leave the area with a Husky dog sled rid
It is intense and if you haven't done it before (like me), you have to 100% focus on it and not much chance to take photos.
The Husky staff were very well skilled and their pre-trip brief was very relevant and they stayed alert on their snow mobiles as they escorted us through the trail.
They also coordinate very well with the Hotels: I was staying at a place and there was no point to coming to do this, and then go back to the Hotel to collect my bags before going to the airport. I asked a simple question to the hotel staff a few hours before my sledding activity and the staff had coordinated it quickly and stored my luggage across to the facility that was closest to the airport shuttle without me having to worry about it. Its a tight business and they work with the hotel closely , by phone / verbally to expedite decision making.
I have noticed after this trip that Finnish people and businesses are really warm and very accommodating.
Peter was one of the pros I remember that welcomed us and was there with us throughout to get us confident in this first time adventure. There were a group of 4-5 guides that led us.
As I had wrapped up, I asked one of the others to take a picture (as I was traveling solo) with the huskies and I. He struck up a delightful conversation and he was the owners' son . Had finished university and was working here till going to his army duty.
He keenly answered many of my questions.
After the husky ride, when you think its all finished, you go into a lodge with a warm wood fire, tasty beverages , and a surprise meeting with the young husky puppies.
I went snow shoeing the night before and I replicated my winter gear combination. That was a mistake: snow shoeing is itself the activity and its easy for your body temp to go up because of the physical work you are doing. Dog sledding is not for amateurs but going at the speeds were going at and wind in my face, plan for another layer to stay warm, specially the hands/fingers.

We visited the husky farm in the morning and received an exhaustive explanation from our host, Jirka, on how the activity was going to happen. Drive the huskies sleigh was a lot of fun and it has definitely been my favourite experience here in Lapland! The huskies are well trained and they know what to do, the driver has only to control a bit the speed with a pedal break and to give a little push to the sledge up on the slope. After that it's just about enjoying the ride and the view!

How many people fit in one sleigh?
We are a couple with a 9 year old. We don’t mind riding separately but us adults are plus size. Is that ok?

Hi, we're planning to visit Saariselka in first week of Sep. Is your husky safari available at that time, or is this seasonal?
Thanks,
Joy

Best to check with them directly... I understand it is seasonal. When I did my trip in Dec, they will only run the shorter trips because of snow conditions as well.

Dear husky & co
I want to rent a snowmobile. Do I need to pay for a deposit when I getting my ride? What type of driving license is needed? I have driving license of private cars and light goods vehicle, but not motorcycles. So can I drive a snowmobile?
I also want to drive quad bikes. Are they available in winter?
Written August 17, 2017

Saariselka, Finland
Hello,
Thank you for your questions, unfortunately we don't rent snowmobiles. If you are interested in having the snowmobile experience, we offer guided tour :) Car driving license is fine by us. Please send your inquiry to husky@huskyco.fi
Deposit is not required, all safari payment has to be settled 1 day before activity date.
Quad bike is not available in winter, because snow is not solid ground, quad wheel will get stuck and not able to move! Let us know if you have more questions.

Dear Husky & Co,
For the 4-5 hr husky ride, what are the differences between the experience for those staying at Kakslauttanen vs. those staying in Saariselka? You mentioned that different farms are used -- so what are the differences between the farms, the group sizes, the trails, any noticeable timing issues (for ex, Saariselka reviews often mention having to wait for long times for everyone to show up and then suit up), etc? Thanks so much once again!

Hi,
There is no difference for us if you stay in saariselkä or in kakslauttanen resort. We are two different companies so Kakslauttanen resort use another supplier for the longer tour.
So actually if decide to stay in Kakslauttanen resort you will make another tour that we would offer :)
the other company is called Kamisak.
Best Regards,

Dear Husky & Co Team:
Thank you so much for the incredibly quick and very detailed responses! The reviews on this page & on the Kakslauttanen TripAdvisor pages are very complimentary of your customer service, and I can see why!
If I'd like to book directly through you instead of the Kakslauttanen resort, what is the best way to get your activities? For snowmobiling, I would imagine I should get myself to your office in Saariselka by taxi in the morning (unless you offer pick up on site or near the resort?); however I believe your husky farm is very close to Kakslauttanen and so it would not be ideal to go all the way to Saariselka and then come back to almost the same starting point. If you won't be able to pick me up at Kakslauttanen, how would you suggest I get to the husky activity? Can I walk, or should I take a taxi? Will you be able to bring snow gear there, or should I meet at the Saariselka office if I want to use the snowsuit?
Many thanks again!

Hello,
Thank you for your kind word. Our guides would be really happy to know all our customers have enjoyed their experiences.
We actually have 2 Husky Kennel, one is close to Kakslauttanen resort, another small one is near Saariselkä area. We have cooperation contract with Hotel Kakslauttanen, unfortunately I couldn´t accept direct booking. If you wish to do snowmobiling and 2 hours husky, the reception they will direct your inquiry to us. Or you could state in your booking to resort, that you wish to do it with us. Booking through hotel is convenient, because our guide can come and pick you up from the reception (save your time to go back and forth). Winter gear you will receive before all activities at our kennel dressing room.
Let us know if you have more questions, happy to help!
