This is an excellent site to give the visitors a glimpse of the glorious past of the Buddhist civilization in this part of the world. A visit to this site is not complete without a visit to the nearby museum as well. The artifacts preserved at the museum along with this excavation site which features a 7th century Buddhist "university" takes the visitors on a remarkable ride through time.

I wish the place were less crowded, though.

I along with my wife visited this famous archaeological site of Cumilla. It is a 7th century Buddhist Bihar. It's a worth visiting place. Recently, lot of beautification work has been done to make the sight a perfect tourist attraction place. The artefacts and the existing infrastructure of the Bihar presents a vivid story of 1200 years old monastery. One can visit that place from the capital city Dhaka which will take about 3 hours journey by road. Details can be revealed from Wikipedia and the official site of Department of Archaeology, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Bangladesh.

It is a great place for tourist interested in archaeology and history. This bihar used to house monks and used as a teaching and learning center. Gradually Buddhism lost its popularity and spread to Tripura, Mynamar and other east asian countries. There are still marks of terracotta works on the walls. This large square shaped monastery had central temple and many other minor building for support activities.

If you want to explore some place full of wonder and history at a same time you need to visit Maynamati Ruins. This is a vast place full of historical back ground. It is said that this place was called "Rajar Bari" (King's Palace) later called as "Shalban Bihara" local people call this place as "Shalban Bihar"

This name is came from the name of the Ruler Deva Dynasty. It was ruled by them during mid 7th to mid 8th century A.D. This large square monastery is now buried under the ground but it's structure is visible from outside. There are 115 cells and a dominant central shrine and a number of subsidiary shrines and many more rooms or chapels access through its monumental gateway on the north. It was not only a monument but also an administrative center and university complex. This place is more than seven hundred years old!

Can you imagine yourself standing in the middle of seven Hundred year old place! where you will find a connection of life from you to the ancient Buddhist. All the valuable terracotta and statues are kept into the museum beside that place. You will need to buy tickets to enter both places, i forgot to mention it earlier. I spend more than 1 hour in the Museum as there were lots of things kept nicely. From the coin, used ornament, their belongings and all the statues of God and Goddesses are the most attractive things of that museum.

While walking in the middle of the shrine you will feel the presence of some ancient people through the walls and their ruins. I love to visit that place when ever i went to Comilla. I hope you will enjoy that place too if you are a lover of history and nature.
