One of the oldest mosques in nablus . It’s said that it was build in the 12th century on a Christian remnants building . Had several renovation in the past century many times and it’s kept till now in a good shape . You reach it from the old city of nablus and from the east side before you reach it there are many shops and many sellers of many goods . You feel the history of old nablus when you walk to get there . Nablus as they say is the smaller version of Damascus . If you are a Muslim at times of prayers you pray there . Definitely a place to worship for Muslims . The inside stone pillars is a magnificent old masterpiece.A must see when you come to nablus

This is a quite an old mosque building. It said it was built in the 12th century supposed to be from a Christian remnant building. My grandfather was one of its great "imams" which I am proud of. The mosque went several renovations in the past century but it keeps in good shape. In general it is not looked at as a touristic place since is mostly used for a place of worship but definitely the inside stone pillars tell you how old is the place. The above photo should be the other way round.

That is defiantly the city where beauty can be captured. I have been to the mosque only for few times and always wished to spend more and more time checking it architectural beauty. Don't miss to visit this city!

My sister needed to pray while we were in the market. So we we came here. The location is very convenient. There is one side especially for women. The room is serene with high ceiling. The fan gives a nice breeze. Even though this is especially for people to pray, and my head was not covered, I didn't feel out of place. I was able to use the clean washroom, get fresh cold water and take a rest.

I travelled here with a large group in RAMADHAN 2016. Stunning mosque and awesome architecture in the heart of the old city. The people of Palestine make Palestine a beautiful place to visit

This is one of the oldest mosques and is located in the old city of Nablus. It is said to have been built in the 12th century. I have had the privilege of praying Duhr at this place.

The Great Mosque is one of several mosques which have a fascinating history in the Old City of Nablus. Like many, this mosque was originally a Byzantine Church, turned into a Latin Church by the Crusaders, and turned into a Mosque after they left. The Byzantine / Crusader church is obvious inside and outside the mosque.
Several other mosques in the Souk have a similar history - for instance the Hanbali Mosque and the Al Nasr Mosque.
The Al Kadra Mosque, in the Yasmeen quarter of the Old City, has an even more complicated story-- it was originally a Samaritan Synagogue, turned into a Church by the Crusaders and into a Mosque after they left. This explains the very specific style of the square minaret tower.
In all mosques of the Old City, people were very welcoming and friendly. Women should bring a scarf with them, as some mosques will ask them to cover their hair.

We were attracted to look by the rather smaller women's entrance and intrigued to find their very small prayer room slightly hidden away. The history of this building is very interesting, it has had many different lives
