The grounds and gardens are lovely and the house is very interesting. We attended on the day of the summer fair, with artisan stalls selling lovely crafts, delicious food stalls, tractors and classic cars, falconry display, and great entertainment for children. Well worth the visit.

Attended the Summer Fair and what excellent value it was. The Falcon and Horse riding show was amazing. The food stalls were all sensible prices. Their own food halls were very good and the staff ultra efficient. We added a trip round the house which was very interesting and none of the stuffiness of English Heritage or the NT. Although... Forde Abbey offers excellent walks, brilliant shop and sale of plants, and a friendly café with the best coffee in the area.

House was a bonus as didn't realise it was open to the public. Lovely living rooms and bedrooms on the upper floors similar to the National Trust with cards explaining what there was to see. Gardens very well maintained with plenty of herbaceous plants in full bloom and several ponds and lakes in parkland setting. Only disappointment was it was... More

The Abbey itself is every bit as interesting as a National Trust or English Heritage site, however I believe this house is run by the family that owns it rather than a trust and this is where the difference lies, there is far more freedom to the rooms - you can actually walk into every room with no roped off... Visited in July when the sweet peas were in full bloom. Stunning sight . The tour around the house was interesting, maybe not so much for young children. Gardens are well stocked and the Bog garden was just amazing. Coffee and cake from the cafe was great. Would recommend a visit if you're in the area.

Most interesting old family seat, house alone well worth a visit. Lovely gardens and grounds, not to National Trust standards, but all the nicer for it. A real gem - highly recommended.

If you like visiting heritage places, this privately owned and still occupied house and gardens is definitely a place to visit, so long as you can handle the horrid single track roads you’ll need to travel down to get here. We loved the place but hated the drive. The remodelled abbey is a stunning home and the gardens are some... More

Entry is via the immaculate kitchen garden with a herbaceous border surrounding the whole border. However, the herbaceous plants were all uncommon, which made it all the more interesting. Plants, were without exception, so very healthy looking and made me want to go home and work a bit harder on my own garden. There is a super pottery exhibition and... More
