Small museum with a compact but interesting selection of artefacts and information relating to the man of Altamura and the evolution of mankind. Particular praise to the lovely lady working there Thursday 27th September who took on us fascinating guided tour!

The truth is I am a big fan of archeology and history, but the other people in the group did not care about it before we entered this museum. We had a nice walking trip in the countryside and this exhibition was a great surprise...More

The composition known as Altamura man is a creation based on the skeleton discovered in the caves and remaining there. The rest of the archeological museum is a testament to the transmission of knowledge across time. A wonderful, well-labeled series of exhibits offering context for...More

You can hold an actual sabre toothed tiger skull. Very interesting and little known attraction in a very picturesque spot en route to the Pulo.

I was also hoping to see the dinosaur footprints and the prehistoric man but they are not in this museum, despite the misleading dinosaur decorations at the front entrance. Entrance is free, and we were shown a video about the discovery of the prehistoric man...More

25 July, both main attractions, Altamura men and dinosaurs exibit are closed due renovation until Oct 15. Website was probably last time updated by the man himself. Rest of exhibition is small, compared with Taranto Museo Nazionale Archeologico 50 km away.
