Absolutely stunning. The ancient gardens along with the incredible grotto were spectacular. The house is open by guided tour only around the 1st floor. Felt very private and exclusive. Finding it can be tricky. But when you do it will be well worth it.

We visited the Villa Sept 24th 2012 and were well impressed. It is one of the few Villas of many that you can actually get inside and see the magnificant ground floor in it's original splendor and fully furnished with all original pieces and artwork.
The drive up to the main gate along the Via del pini (if Open) was quite stunning as is the main gate and first view of the Villa through the gate.
The current owners still live on the property except for in winter as the house gets too cold.
The gardens are beautiful and if you are limited on time, this is one Villa you should put on your list as you get the fantastic gardens AND the Villa in one. The gardens are well kept and nicely proportioned so it's a pleasant couple of hours or you can get through in an hour if you are a faster mover.
The house tours are timed on the hour or half hour and always with a guide, so call and check but if you need to wait the you can tour the gardens first. They close for the usual long Italian lunch and in winter.
Don't miss the Cantina under the house which you can visit unaccompanied and check all rooms as there is an old spa somewhere down there.
While I always leave these properties with a longing feeling like I'd like to see more of the Villa(s) and stay longer. It was the same here but we were not disappointed at all.
Take the road for Pescia and you will see the clear brown and white tourist signs directing you to the Villa. It's only about 15 minutes out from the Centro Storico of Lucca.

We found this villa totally by chance whilst looking for a restaurant so after a quick chat with the lovely guy on the gate decided to return another day for a visit.
We really enjoyed the morning we spent there. You can just imagine how fabulous it must have been in its prime and having visited Versailles I can totally see the influence.
We found the hidden grotto behind the stairs and do wonder if “The Forbidden Corner” back home in Yorkshire was influenced by this!!
Our tour of the villa was so personal and fascinating and we feel honoured that our guide chose to speak English.
You must just go and see for yourself - I can only hope that with more visitors they may be able to make some of those water features work before our next visit.

Astounded to be charged €7 each to walk round this garden. We managed to spin out the saunter round to 1/2 an hour but there was only a few potted citrus trees and a few more tubs of geraniums. We couldn't access the the "box" garden as it was chained off. Everything else was just grass and a couple of fairly damaged statues. The back of the Villa was rather pretty but everything seemed really run down.

I definitely have mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, we had a rather similar visit to the former Medici villa at Poggio a Caiano the day before at no cost (a state museum) so from a value perspective, this seemed overpriced. On the other hand, Torrigiani is one of the few privately owned historic villas that seems to offer a tour of the interior, which is the reason that we decided to visit. Viewed from the latter perspective, and understanding what must be the enormous cost of trying to maintain a property like this, you can understand the high entry fee. so, if you are keen to see one, this may well be the best choice.
The villa tour itself is somewhat short, being limited to the main floor, and while I would say it was not "hurried", I would also say we were not encouraged to linger. The tour guide's English was flawless, and he was extremely knowledgeable about the house. The historical artifacts collected over the many years of the home's use were varied and quite interesting. As for the gardens, they were pretty enough, although admittedly gardens aren't really my thing.
Presumably if you are reading this review it's because you are intrigued by having a chance to view one of these fading beauties, so you probably won't be disappointed. For the more casual tourist, you might be better off making the drive to Poggio a Caiano.

Spent 2 hours doing the grounds and villa. The architecture interesting. So the tour as it adds context to everything. Gardens were not well kept and the experience a bit disappointing. 12 euros for entry and tour. Pick a non scorcher time of day. The secret passageway behind zigzag garden and wine cellar were very interesting.

This is only one of the more of 300 villas in the Lucca area. From the road leading to the entrance the mansion is easily spotted and the view is very impressive. You pay a fee to get access to the grounds and garden, teens and children up to 15 are granted free entrance. Beautifully well kept on the outside, there is a pond and a Versailles-style gardens (actually designed by the same person that did Versailles).
The guided tour to the house (ground floor only) reveals the lack of funds to maintain such a structure. Pictures of the inside are not allowed.

+ points
- friendly guide who showed us the ground floor rooms of the house with a lively English/Italian commentary
- being able to wander freely round the gardens even during the lunch-time closure
- points
nothing really "stand-out" in the house
gardens felt a bit neglected

This is a beautiful villa - the gardens are just lovely and a great walk. We had a tour of the inside of the villa and given the details in English (written) which was helpful. I'd recommend a visit - a lovely morning trip.

This is an amazing, tranquil spot to visit. Our lovely guide was knowledgeable and spoke very good English. The gardens are stunning. The. Furnishings, paintings, and statuary inside well worth paying for the guided tour. If you just want a break from the hustle and bustle head here. Children are free the tour and gardens 15 euro.

If I want to drive over in my rental car from Montecatini Terme and have time to tour just one of the villas near Lucca, which would you recommend and what time/day of the week is best if we would like to tour the inside as well as gardens and are not coming with a group tour or guide? We would be coming sometime between March 22 and 25. Thank you!

Sorry not to have responded sooner. All the villas northeast of Lucca have somewhat erratic opening times and most of the actual villas aren't open to the public I've found. The gardens are the main attractions, it seems. Yes, we were able to visit the Villa Torrigiani in early June last year and we were able to join a small group being taken round by the Italian-speaking house guide, but we'd employed a private guide to bring us there (it's certainly NOT easy finding the place--being in a very obscure corner of the district, not terribly well-signposted!) and our guide was able to do simultaneous translations on the tour. Sorry this is all a bit negative. But if you could find a local tour of the Villa Real, Villa Manzi or Villa Torrigiani to get you there, that would be your best bet. Have you considered the Castello Garzoni at Collodi, much nearer to Montecatini and easier to find?

visita fatta i cani possono entrare tranquillamente, ovviamente al guinzaglio, abbiamo persino potuto partecipare alla visita guidata della villa.
