A bit of local history and nice views
Worth seeing the tower if in the area, and whilst the museum is a little dry it is worth half an hour of your time to help put the islands history in context (there is a small €2.25 charge.) Alternatives mean that the Car park at the foot means easy access, or you can walk out from the town which is about a mile away. Either way it’s an inclined walk on a good path upwards which some may not find easy. There are also nice views from the surrounding rocks, over rough ground tracks.

    British built fortification tower
Built by the British in 1802, the conical Tower guards Fornells harbour. The tower has four levels - the cistern, the stores, the troops quarters and the artillery deck. The information boards are in Spanish, but English speaking visitors can borrow an English guide book from Reception and return it when they leave. With great views from the top, it's an easy walk from the centre of Fornells. Small admission fee.

    Lovely sunset
We went about 9:00pm when the tower was shut, so can't write about what it was like inside. But it is a great spot to enjoy the sunset, with a well-made path leading up to it. Park at the car park at the bottom if you can find space!

Fornells is a pretty little town situated on the north coast of Menorca. There are many small hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops, mostly with views across the long natural harbour. The surrounding countryside is mostly rocky hills and sea cliffs, with excellent views. It's a peaceful and relaxing area, but this hasn't always been the case - as can be seen by the large round fortress, Fornells Tower, which is situated high on the headland overlooking the town.
The fortress, Fornells Tower is a large circular watchtower, built by the British in the early 19th century, to guard the entrance to Fornells harbour. It has been fully restored, and there is a small exhibition of life during the garrison years. The entrance charge is about 2.5 euros, but seniors and children pay only 1.5 euros, with under 8's free. You can can go right up to the top of the tower, from where the views are excellent - which is what of course it was built for. Visiting the fortress will probably take only an hour or so, but it's worth spending a bit of extra time walking along the cliffs.
From the nearby car-park the path up to the fortress passes by a pretty little Roman Catholic grotto or shrine, called 'Grotto of our Lady of Lourdes', which is worth stopping for.

Walked along coastal path from Playa de fornells to the tower. Unfortunately it was closed and there were no information boards. Looked recently renovated, good views from this spot.

If you are interested in the history of Menorca and the British involvement on the island this may be for you. If you want to see Fornells and the sea from a different angle this may be for you.
The displays around the walls are in Spanish and Catalan, no English, get a leaflet at the entrance which has English translation. If you go on a Monday, it's FREE!

Seems it was one of the things the English built during their brief possession between 1798 and 1802.
There is a small, free car park at the foot of the path to the Torre. En route is a small shrine. Continue up the path to the torre. Entrance was a very reasonable €2.40.
Up a few steps brings you to the living area and then a very narrow winding stairway leads to the top of the tower with commanding views of the northern approach to the harbour with Cap de Cavelleria to the left.
You get great 360 degree views from the top - don't forget your camera!!!
Well worth a visit

Interesting but brief visit. Well translated guides and very helpful staff. It's a bit of a climb to reach the tower and in mid afternoon heat it was draining but worth it for a cracking view

We visited Fornells Tower on a day when the wind was blowing a gale. It was a bracing walk up the path but great views of the open sea and Fornells bay when you get there. You have to pay to enter the tower and visit the small museum.

We have been many times to Menorca but never visited Fornells. Decided one morning to go and we were not disappointed. It's a lovely little place to visit. It only took us half an hour from Punta Prima where we stayed. It has a tower up a steep winding pathway. Being less mobile than our son we only managed to climb a little bit towards a shrine at the side of the pathway and had to sit on the wall while our son went to the tower. Bear in mind it is an uphill walk so need to be pretty moblle. There is a marina at the bottom of this pathway and its well worth a look around at the boats moored there. We walked along and went to a place called Jordis and just had a snack of meat and cheese platter which was nice. Its an interesting place with lots to look at. It is certainly well worth a visit here. I would definately come again if staying in Menorca.

We stayed a week in Fornells so had to visit. Easy walk up from car park. Only downside is there is no English translation on the interpretation boards, which is a shame. Small entrance fee - free entry on Mondays
