We were treated to a pesonalised tour around the Terres des Templiers which was engaging and interesting throughout. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgable about the banyuls and wine making process and at the end of the tour suggested which banyuls we would like to try. The quality of the banyuls was fantastic and I would recommend anyone go and taste what they have to offer

It is not difficult to find "Terres des Templiers" provided you carefully follow the signs from the seafront in Bayuls. The drive takes you away from the esplanade and there is plenty of onsite parking. It took about 10 to 15 minutes for them to arrange our €5.00 p.p. English Language tour which started with an interesting short film. The tour around the winery was informative and our guide took his time and was happy to answer questions. At the end there is a comprehensive tasting with a chance to buy a bottle or two before you leave. If I have a tip it would be to research the price of Banyul in local supermarkets beforehand, as some bottles on offer were quite expensive. Though I suspect better quality / vintage. Buy a bottle or two locally before you visit and do your homework a day or two in advance. If I can make a suggestion to the owners. Why not have a seated area outside where you can purchase a bottle and continue the sampling. Finally....be kind to your "Car Driver". French Drink Drive regulations are strict and it is tough visiting a winery by car and having to abstain.

We toured the fabulous Terres des Templiers winery with our engaging English speaklng guide, Michel, a retired French Army officer. We saw huge wine barrells made of white oak, almost 200 years old, each with its own history of wine aging over time. The aroma in this vast cellar was a wine lover's dream. There are three levels of wine being aged for different numbers of years, all depending on the quality of the grapes of that season's vintage: Traditional, Grand Cru and President Vidal, each one more rich and smooth than the last. Michel was very personable, engaging and answered all our questions regarding this wine growers cooperative, which is blessed with both vines and barrels going back generations. This coup de grace was Michel treating us to tastings of 5 different types of wine made at the Domaine. These wines compare favorably with the best Ports and Sherrys we have had, and pair well with produits terroir like Roquefort cheese, as well as the best chocolates. We recommend this tour highly to everyone, whether a wine lover or not.

The corniche road that runs from Collioure to the Spanish Border is one of the great roads of France, in my mind surpassing the Corniches of the Cote D'Azur. The real bonus is that when you stop in the car park at Cap Cerbere (just inside the French border) is a shed-Cave where you can buy one of the areas finest wines - Banyuls Traditionelle is my choice - like thick sticky sherry but better, The gentleman that served us today was a real delight who let us taste what we wanted. A superb wine.
