We did a night hike and morning hike. Our guide was Donald the owner of the property. His knowledge of the flora and fauna was incredible. Night hike was full of sleeping birds, lots of varieties of tree frogs and snakes. Throughout the hikes the property has platform where you can rest and watch the birds and valley. We saw 3 different kinds of Toucans, Guan, loads of different hummingbirds, mot mots and many other bird! It’s a beautiful park and Donalds knowledge and respect for the land made it a superb experience.

SO. MUCH. WILDLIFE. We hiked there during the day and night. We saw tons of birds, frogs, snakes, insects, arachnids, and layers and layers of amazing plants. I highly recommend visiting Tapir Valley. The staff is also very knowledgeable, kind, and friendly.

We did a night tour of the reserve with our guide, Donald and his two lovely girls, who my children had made friends with during our stay at Casitas Tenorio (which Donald is the owner of). It was so exciting to be visiting the reserve at night with head torches on. Donald was an incredible guide but also one you felt very safe with. He is extremely knowledgeable and was able to spot a vast array of wildlife over the course of the evening. We saw fer-de-lance (and Donald was very careful to explain to us how to behave in their presence!), so many different types of frogs, toads, butterflies, insects and birds, oposum, but most fantastic of all a pregnant baird's tapir! My kids also got to hold a cloudy snail eater snake, which Donald found on the trail - the first time they had ever handled a snake in the wild! It was such a highlight for them. We were all buzzing on our return from the tour. I couldn't sleep. This was by far the best thing we did in CR and I cannot recommend it enough. Donald is one of a kind and so keen to share his love and knowledge of the area and the animals with you. This is a little pocket of the world that you must visit.

We were lucky to have Donald as our guide and he was wonderful. He explained the history of the Reserve, it's ecology, ongoing studies, and helped us find wildlife.

A perfect place to visit that provides lasting memories. Donald is very generous and cares a great deal for the natural world and it showed in how he spoke about his work and the reserve. My group did the nighttime tapir tour and we were all blown away by the size, tranquility and overall behavior of the tapir we encountered. Such amazing animals. We were also able to see many other nighttime critters, such as amphibians and reptiles at a respectful distance. Tapir Valley offered a great experience while also being very Covid-19 responsible. The facilities were clean and blended into the reserve so as to not distract from the natural environment. I definitely recommend you visit.
