We were walking from our hotel and noticed this motor museum in Hastings. The owner himself, Bill Mallalieu, showed around his amazing collection. My husband enjoyed talking to Bill about his varied car collection as well pictures, memorablia and his memories. They also discussed at length the demise of the great British car industry. Well worth a visit.

We just loved this place! I really do NOT like cars and have little interest in them. However, the owner of this amazing collection gave us a tour and enthusiastically talked about why he had chosen each of the collection models. What was really amazing was the setting: not a shiney museum but a working space which showed the cars off in a realisitc, authentic space. Well worth doing whether you're an enthusiast or not!!

As you walk through the gates go to your left and there is the office you will be greeted by the owner who will walk you to the garage we’re his collection of cars are.
Don’t expect a massive collection the cars are his own purchased over many years,he will take you round and tell you all about the various models and he has and some very interesting stories and pictures.
It will take you about 2hrs to chat and walk round well worth a visit.

This is the first time I have visited this collection and would recommend it the cars are fabulous and the owner who showed me around told me the history behind each one. If you like vintage cars this is a must.

This is Mr Mallalieu's own personal collection and my wife Fiona and I were lucky enough to spend time with him as he explained his way through this treasure trove.

Every single vehicle has a story to tell and is there for a reason and it's particularly fascinating to hear about the varied range of ironmongery that ended up on the island thanks to the whims of the plantocracy as well as the governor.

There's a surprise around every corner (when was the last time you found a Beardmore taxi?) and the best thing about the collection is that it all the vehicles are in fine driving fettle.

Highlights?

Yes, the swoopy sinuous 53 Damiler and the Chevrolet master 6 but as a member of the BDC, the true delights are the ex-Prince Bernhard markVI drop-head and the charming Mallalieu Special..........

If you like old cars, especially old British ones, this is a interesting way to spend an hour or so. Basically one mans lifetime collection, over 20 historic cars are crammed into a small garage. Bentley's rub shoulders with Triumphs, Worsely's, Austins, and the odd Volvo and Jeep. Signs are there to give useful explanations, but what was very cool was the owner himself, who happily gave the (often convoluted) histories and facts of the different machines. All are runners, and he starts them up regularly and takes some out on Sundays.

Note, I did find the location a bit hard to find beforehand, but it is simple enough, look for a sign on a red brick courtyard on the north side of the south coast road, between the Dred or Dead surf shop and the Courtyard Marriot, just east of Bridgetown. The hours posted also seem to be wrong, when phoned up he said he opens for the mornings only.

Lovely collection of cars and other keepsakes, worth a trip if you like this sort of thing like I do. The cars are all in a nice condition even if not perfect with some detail of how they arrived here. We were left to look around on our own which was nice to be able to see things at our own pace.

Having a love of cars went to visit the museum. Paid our admission and were then introduced to the owner Mr Mallalieu who took us to the Collection and gave us a private tour. Great Collection of cars, mostly from the UK but a few others. Really interesting visit which we thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to any car enthusiast visiting Barbados. Excellent.
