My partner and I found this surfing school by chance and I am so pleased we did!! Russell and his son are very helpful and taught us about long term useful tips on safety, technique, what waves are best to catch, etc. They actually get in the water with you (unlike other schools I have experienced in the past where they shout and try to direct you from the shore!) and guide you. They also have good quality and various sizes boards so you can change boards as you start getting better. I recommend this school 100%

I saw dread or dead surf shop on my Google maps, spoke to Russel & he put me at ease straight away, I couldn’t of asked for a more easy going but very technical instructor. Absolutely loved going out with him & his son. While they helped me along my journey. Thanks again Russel. I’ll definitely be back again.

Russell is an excellent teacher. He pointed exactly out what mistakes I was making and is both super analytical in his approach and very helpful. Most important, it was a ton of fun. Thanks a lot for the great day on the board!

Stayed locally in Hastings and came across Dread or Dead surf shop on the main road - Spoke to Russell and booked a lesson with Matthew who was helpful and had lots of experience to share along with a mean set of dreadlocks. Conditions at Pebbles beach were perfect for a beginner and by the end I was riding them all the way in.

Wife and I were walking when we passed the shop. Learning to surf had always been a bucket list item for us both and decided when would ever be a better time since we are both early 40s. Went in shop and met Russell and Axe and both are as nice as can be. Very flexible as we told them we just got in and we’re planning other excursions But wanted to do this for sure and Russell told us when we get everything else planned (and they made recommendations on those as well) let them know as they would make sure instructors would be available for lessons. We got everything coordinated that night and scheduled. Our instructor was Matthew Kydd who we later found out was a world class surfer & a Bajan National Champ. We had a short instruction on beach on body placement on board, correct way to get up, and body weight and also how to bail and then we were in water. To my surprise I got up and was riding on the first wave and it took my wife two tries. Rest of the time we were enjoying surfing and cutting up with Matthew. I realize everyone is different and might take longer to learn and get up but regardless it is time will spent and you would be hard to find more qualified or better instruction anywhere in the world. I will have this memory the rest of my life and now trying to incorporate surfing instead of golf into our future trips.
