Well situated on the beach just out of the town centre, we rented a two person kayak for a couple of hours (25 Euros). The staff were friendly (no wonder if they spent all day on the beach in the sun) and gave us some recommendations on where to go - well, they pointed out to sea and said head that way. Well worth it if you are in St. Florent and want to do some active exploring.

This kayak hire place is right on the beach and is ideally situated in a wide bay that spans the town to the right (as you look at the sea) and two large headlands to the left and extreme right. It's not cheap - two person kayaks were €25 for two hours and you may or may not get a waterproof storage 'bin' thrown in for that price; put your must-keep-dry things in and seal the lid - its then attached to the back of the canoe with bungee cords. The canoes in question are heavy duty sit-on ones. They also have singles, then enclosed canoes (for the more accomplished paddler) and stand-up paddleboards plus pedaloes, which may also have a water slide on them for kids. We headed for the left side of the bay and the lighthouse and it took about 40 minutes to get there. We rounded the headland and there are a couple of small beaches there (mainly pebbles) but the feeling of accomplishment of getting there makes it worthwhile. It's not hard to paddle these things and it is hard to turn them over even with the usual choppiness of the water. Coming back is typically easier given the way the wind blows. It's a good way to spend an hour or two and get the muscles pumping after slothful drinking if wine. Have a good time!
