The main building follows the usual format of most church’s and cathedrals of that era. The best reason to visit is to go up the bell tower which costs 2 euros for a 30 minute guided tour. Great views at the top and well worth the price. Enter via a side door to the right of the main church doors. It is best to go to the tourist information office in the main square to establish when the bell tower tours are operating because it depends on the season!

Prioral Sant Pere is the main church in Reus and it is located in the center of the old town. It is possible to visit the church, which was built in the 16th Century in a gothic style, and also go up to the bell tower, from where you can see the bells and very nice views of Reus and surroundings (in fact, you can see until Mediterranean Sea). It is a guided visit, where you can learn about some objects of the bell tower. Very interesting and nice.

This was opposite our hotel and whilst striking from outside, the inside is truly beautiful. The windows are stunning, the interior warm and welcoming to all. Please do spend 10 minutes to see this beautiful church.

The exterior of this church (is it San Pedro or San Pere-see photo) is quite large and with good architecture, if you stand in the main square with the Gaudi centre to your back, then the church is at the end of the right hand street directly opposite on the other side of the square.
By the time we had finished admiring the outside, there was only about 5 minutes left before they closed for the afternoon, so if you intend visiting and spending some time inside, find out the opening times, it will help.
What we saw of the inside was very nice, I am a sucker for stained glass windows and this church had some good examples, wish we could have spent more time here.
A must see attraction if you visit the city of Reus.

The Church of San Pedro is located at the Plaza San Pedro. This church was started in 1512 and finished in 1569, and was constructed where the old Church of Santa Maria used to be. Domingo Garrupe was the architect for the church. The Santisimo Chapel was started in 1694 using plans by Fray Jose de la Concepcion. During the Civil War many of the valuable altarpieces were destroyed and the church was converted into a public market. In 1941 the church was restored by the architect Cesar Martinell.

The style of the church is late Gothic with only one nave, but with six side chapels. The presbytery is polygonal, with seven sides and with radial chapels. At the back of the church is the Renaissance choir. There are stained glass windows on the side walls and the presbytery, and all of them are in the Gothic style. The façade has the Renaissance style.

The bell tower has the Gothic style and the architect was Benet Otger de Lyon. The tower was finished in 1566. It has seven floors and has a height of 62 meters. The shape is hexagonal and is 12 meters wide. The tower contains four bells, which replaced those destroyed during the civil war.

The Santisimo Chapel was funded by the Marques de Tamarit and is an elegant chapel with the shape of the Greek cross, with a hexagonal cupola. It contains the alabaster sepulchers of the first Marques de Tamarit, Francesc de Montserrat, and that of his daughter Gertrudis and her husband Antonio de Camporrells. The sepulchers have the Renaissance style.

Opening hours are from 10am to 12.30 pm. There is a mass at 12.30pm on Sundays.
Free to enter but you could light a candle for 1.5 euros to donate to funds.
Stained glass is impressive and completed post Civil War damage to the building.
The chapel of the Holy Spirit is where the painter Fortuny's heart lies entombed . Lovely words inscribed there.
The bell tower opening hours are also infrequent.(Entrance included with Reus bracelet) If you knock on the door at opening times and there's no reply, then it's because the lovely Antonia is upstairs with visitors so please have patience. She is full of information about the tower. I think it's only 130 steps but in the hotter months it might seem more than that ! Lovely architectural features and views to die for if you're not careful enough !
