The red salt beds
Jun 2021
Well sign posted from the town so easy find. Plenty of free parking when we arrived but would imagine it's different in the high season. The restaurant was effectively full booked so we didn't eat there. The views of the red salt beds are quite amazing and should be seen if in the area. The museum was small but there is a short film about how the salt is produced and it's history. The shop has a vast array of different products, mostly salt orientated but not all and not expensive.

Overpriced; food was really less than average, very disappointing

Well worth a visit

This is a really cool place to visit. Both the shop and the restaurant are beautifully designed , although we didn't eat at the restaurant. The location is stunning and there is a fascinating and free exhibition on how the salt is made.

The ‘oh’s and ‘ah’s from the French tourist tell me it was an interesting tour. The guide also seemed to engage the children a lot.
When we bought the ticket we were told the tour would be in French, but that we could ask the guide some questions in English. She was not willing (or able) to answer them. There was no printed information in English, no signs in English nothing. Too bad, it’s a pretty place and could have been interesting if there was a little information in English available.

Salt Pans at Gruissan
Jul 2020
A fascinating process, turning sea water into salt! Immediately bought a wedding present. The restaurant nearby is absolutely yum. Get the assorted seafood platter.

Sea salt source - a destination!
Dec 2019
My sister had been here and said it was not to be missed! This Mediterranean shoreline sea salt harvesting location was fascinating and a great place to pick up salt direct at the source. We stopped for lunch and were so pleased to find the little restaurant open and serving Fruits de Mer right on the dock by the salt source evaporation pools. Gruissan itself it a beautiful little seaside town and the beaches are amazing. Even though it was a cold December day, I couldn't resist kicking off my shoes and wading in to the sacred surf!

Lovely setting
Aug 2019 • Couples
The setting of this restaurant is unique virtually open to the elements which makes it rather special with views of the salt in mounds and simply the sea and sky . We went on a warm evening but take a jumper if in doubt !

Young lively staff - the big drawback was the wait in between courses - twenty minutes wait for the first course then about an hour for the main course.

Also no suggestion of an aperitif so straight into wine which again took time.

The food was good but not outstanding except for the ratatouille and fish baked in salt it was fresh .
The desert was however excellent- simply ice cream but outstanding.

Cold ordinary chips - boring bread - lack of aperitif with olives etc
With a few tweaks this could be outstanding - a shame

Raw place with excellent food
Jul 2019
Friends from the area took us there for dinner. it was amazing. The seafood was out of this world. Tasted so many different things. Service was excellent too.

Seems like a nice place for families and there were many locals there too which makes it even more valuable. The pink scenery is spectacular.

A Very Good Seafood Experience
Aug 2018 • Friends
Another seafood restaurant that specialises in fish, this one though cooks the fish in a thick salt crust. Unfortunately they also do the same for steak, duck and chicken, why go to a seafood specialist and then eat chicken, I have not had the chicken, nor will I, but it looks dry as a bone, there is no underestimating the taste of tourists. However they also serve these great large paella type dishes full of mixed seafood, very quickly fried over a very hot fire. Lobster, prawns, scallops, couteaux, pieces of fish all cooked in a beautiful hot olive oil and garlic. Served with crisp local white wines and of course the crusty bread.
You sit on long benches, no individual tables here, looking out over a seemingly endless bright pink salt bed with the sun almost blindingly reflected from it. If you want entrée and dessert, yeah OK, it’s available, but why? (although a dozen raw local oysters go down really well). Local fish, local wine, at a reasonable price, surrounded by people who are obviously delighted with the way the fish is presented and verbally expressing it. It’s noisy and fun. No rush, we have been the first to arrive and the last to leave on more than one occasion.

Unique gift opportunity
Jul 2018 • Family
We didn't do a tour of the actual salt flats but we did spend some time in the shop. There were a bunch of different salt options with various fragrances and flavors added. You choose your own flavors and fill various containers or choose from ready made ones. They also had cookies and chocolates and other goodies like that. We bought gifts for ourselves and family back home and treats for the next few days. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.
