Nice Sunday afternoon walk with river views
Oct 2019
Pleasant walking tour up to the cathedral and back down through the marketplace on a Sunday afternoon - light traffic with a festival at a nearby riverpark. Scenic views from the cathedral ramparts of the river and surrounding village. Smiling, friendly people everywhere we looked.

Small German town with cathedral
Oct 2019
From the cathedral area there is a view overlooking the Rhine. Unfortunately we didn’t find it as picturesque as many other places in Germany. Our river cruise stopped here for a few hours and we walked aways to get to the town. Enjoyed other stops like Heidelberg much better although it’s a much bigger city.

Very central
Oct 2019
A pleasant modernised market square, centrally located with a number of cafes and restaurants. Little cover if the weather is not dry.
A good rendezvous place if you visit as a group and want to split up and do your own thing. Town map and tourist information location.

Breisach, Germany
Aug 2019
Breisach is the town on the Rhine River where our ship docked & our excursion departed from.

Following our excursion to Colmar, we walked approximately 30 minutes from our ship, to the town centre of Breisach. As we were here on a Sunday, we knew that not much was open, however, it was a good walk, especially in the sun, to work off some of the good eating on the ship.

One of the main things to see there, is the St. Stephen’s Church from the 12 century, which is located on a steep hill overlooking the town of Breisach. It'll take you about 10 minutes to get up the hill, depending on your condition & mobility. You'll also past the Hagenbach Tower, which was once use as a prison, about half way up the hill.

From this hilltop, you get a great view of the surrounding areas & town below.

Thank you very much, Ken, for your comment on our town. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay, esp. the view from the top. Here's my advice for other visitors who read this and who come to Breisach in future: from Monday to Saturday there is a service by mini bus from Marktplatz up to the cathedral. It leaves opposite our office. Kind regards Annette Senn

Really helpful and cheerful!

Loads of information here for the independent traveller. We had a few days break in Breisach from our cycling and this office was fabulous about things to do including travel to Colmar and Freiburg from here.

An easy walk from the river cruiser landing and you’re in the middle of town!
Aug 2018 • Couples
Visited this area while doing a Basel-to-Amsterdam Rhine cruise. The Tourist information building has a wealth of resources for folks who like to explore on their own. Scenic walk areas are well posted, but please note: this is a very hilly area and many walkways and streets (while certainly passable) may have uneven surfaces which can be tricky under the best of conditions. When touring the church courtyard, be sure to note the small memorial to “Kitchen Witches”!

Dear Christopher, I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay in Breisach. My team and I will be pleased to help all future cruise passengers with planning their visit to our town ashore the Rhine river. The walk from the ships to our office is not hilly. Only to get up to the cathedral on foot takes some effort. Those who would like to avoid this, can take a little bus which stops near the market square and takes you right up to the cathedral. Kind regards Annette SENN, Breisach-Touristik

Great Tourist Office but a Better Wine Shop
Jul 2018 • Couples
We were in Breisach for the day while on a Viking River Cruise. The tourist office is great, but the wine shop next door is more fun. You can taste 5 wines for 5 Euros, but with 2 couples you can share wines and get 10 different wines. The wine shop is associated with the Baden Wine Coop which has over 600 different wines (not all at the shop). The manager/owner of the shop is extremely knowledgeable on local wines and makes the overall experience very delightful. Someone said he is also the local burgermeister. We sent many of our friends from the cruise over there and they all loved it.

Hello from Breisach, I am very pleased that you enjoyed the visit to our building with the tourist office and the wine shop which belongs to the Badischer Winzerkeller, one of Europe's largest wineries. I am in charge of Breisach-Touristik, the tourist office. If we have English speaking visitors who are interested in wine I am very pleased to consult them personally. Thus, my colleagues and I look forward to welcoming all future visitors who are on a Viking river cruise. Best regards Annette Senn PS: Mr. Wetter, who manages the wine shop together with his wife, is not the Bürgermeister of Breisach, but of the small village of Bickensohl in our neighbourhood .

A Pleasant Surprise!
Jan 2018 • Couples
While staying in Alsace, we decided to take a trip to Germany for the day, only 30 minutes from where we were staying..we came across the Rhine into the charming town of Breisach. The Tourist Office, Breisach-Touristik, was extremely helpful and very friendly. Their recommended walking paths, wineries, and places to eat, were spot-on. The crowning jewel of the town is the St. Stephansmunster, overlooking the Rhine River and the town of Breisach. It holds a magnificent carved altar. One could easily spend more than a day exploring the town and surrounding area.

Dear Barbara and Michael, thank you so much for your kind lines in our guestbook and on tripadvisor. It was a pleasure to welcome you to Breisach and our tourist information and have a nice chat with you. I would be pleased to welcome you or a member of your family again some time in the future. Warm regards, Annette PS: By the way, I was in Alsace with my husband last weekend. We visited the Alsace Moselle Memorial in Schirmeck which was very impressive. If you have some spare time, I would highly recommend it.
