Landmark of Breisach, built in 12-15. Romanesque and Gothic style. Although it was heavily destroyed during World War II in 1945, important works of art of its time have survived inside. ==History====References====External links==*Official website*Official website*Official website*Official website And then the main attractions: Tympanum above the west portal, crypt, mural by Martin Schongauer, high altar, reliquary shrine, Holy Sepulchre, Lettner and pulpit.

Münsterplatz served until the middle of the 17th century. ==References====External links== As a training ground. Very close is a nice cafe and the festival from Breisach. Really good for a walk up the mountain.

Structure is on a high point in town and quite a hike to get there.

Building is well preserved and mildly interesting but there are much better churches all over Europe.

Definitely a major attraction in this small town.

My wife and I, as well as a couple of friends, walked up the hill at Breisach to St. Stephan’s Munster. It was an interesting church. You have some great views from the church yard of the town and river below. This was one of the stops on our Viking Rhine River Cruise. The town was very pleasant during the Saturday market in the square.

It is a very steep climb up to the Cathdral. It is well worth the struggle for the view. You can see the city plus the Rhine River. The cathdral isn't elaborate but very peaceful. They have small items inside you can purchase.Unfortunately I didn't have any Euros so I couldn't do this. We were there at 1:00 and got to enjoy the bells form the Cathedral. There is also a restaurant in front of the cathedral.

It’s a little bit of a walk up the cobblestone street to the church, if you stop along the way for pics and views it’s an easy walk. Like the sculpture in front of the church.

Use the public bathroom before heading back down.

A port of call on our Rhine river cruise but little to see in the village of Breisach. However, it was worth the walk up the hill and steps to visit St Stephen's Munster with a peaceful ambiance inside and views over the village and river.

First stop on Gate 1 Rhine cruise. Walk tour got us to the top without a lot of exertion for us old people. The stuff at the top is great starting with the church: the frescos and altar piece inside are worth the climb. The well and story with it is right next to church. The views are great and there are free clean bathrooms right off the square. Now if you are at the top and want go to the Stadt Museum, if you get the right directions there is a road and sidewalk behind the well that takes you directly there. From the museum follow the road in front back to center of town and ship dock.

The walk to the church was nice with many photo stops along the way. It was nice seeing the history of the church that was pretty much totally destroyed and rebuilt. You could see some of the old stones if you looked closely. The bonus was the great view of the Rhine from here.

St. Steven's Cathedral, is a landmark for the pretty little town of Breisach. It is visible for miles around, perched on a steep volcanic cliff above the Rhine River.
The first traces of settlement in the area go back to the Neolithic Period, around 1500BC. Over the centuries, the city has changed hands, back and forth between German, French and Austrian rulers.
In 1793, troops of the French revolution destroyed and burned the city and during WWII, the city and cathedral were almost totally destroyed. It took 20 years to restore the cathedral and town to something of is former state

This church overlooks the town from its highest point. There are several approaches to the top. One is mostly stairs the other a moderately inclined street. It took us almost as long to get to the top as to tour the church. One thing that made it worth it were the views of the river and surrounding countryside from the top. The church itself is very nice, but nothing special compared to others in the Rhine valley. There are free public bathrooms at the top by the church.
