My wife and I, as well as a couple of friends, walked up the hill at Breisach to St. Stephan’s Munster. It was an interesting church. You have some great views from the church yard of the town and river below. This was one of the stops on our Viking Rhine River Cruise. The town was very pleasant during the Saturday market in the square.

Worth every bit of effort to hike to the top of the town through quaint residential area. A spectacular view of Breisach and the Rhein below. Incredibly displayed items from the church's history despite damage from WWII. Do not miss this opportunity if you are in Breisach.

It’s a little bit of a walk up the cobblestone street to the church, if you stop along the way for pics and views it’s an easy walk. Like the sculpture in front of the church.

Use the public bathroom before heading back down.

This is well worth the climb. Little was open Breisach, but the walk to the church as not that hard and easy to follow. Was a easy walk from Viking dock.

This church overlooks the town from its highest point. There are several approaches to the top. One is mostly stairs the other a moderately inclined street. It took us almost as long to get to the top as to tour the church. One thing that made it worth it were the views of the river and surrounding countryside from the top. The church itself is very nice, but nothing special compared to others in the Rhine valley. There are free public bathrooms at the top by the church.

On a Rhine River cruise, we found ourselves with time to spare in Breisach. We decided to make the climb to St. Stephan's Cathedral and found it well worth the effort. There are beautiful works of art throughout the Cathedral. Since photos or videos are not permitted inside, I made due with postcards available for purchase (honor system). The large, hinged high altar is beautifully carved. There are murals by Martin Schongauer painted from 1488-1491, sadly deteriorated with the years but still impressive.

This cathedral reflects the Gothic and Romanesque styles was damaged during World War II and restoration work on it is ongoing. It was built during the 12th and 15th centuries and is located on a hill and overlooks the town and the Rhine River. The towns saints are Gervasius and Protasius and they have a silver shrine of them. Very nice cathedral to visit.

This old church, damaged during the big war, sits proudly above the village. It has been restored. We were told it was quite a hike to make a visit,so we were satisfied with seeing it from afar. Others on our cruise ship raved about it. If you are not yet 85 (as I am) take the walk.
