About
The mountain is near Grundarfjordur, a teensy-weensy town in west Iceland. With a summit 1,500 feet above sea level, Mount Kirkjufell the biggest landmark in the village of about 900 residents. Kirkjufell stands on snaefellsnes peninsula of its own, a stunning backdrop for the multicolored Icelandic sky.

Magical

Even we had terrible weather while being here, it was still breathtaking view. No wonder this place has become one of Iceland's postcards.

An Obvious Must-See
Sep 2021
My husband and I visited Kirkjufell (and Kirkjufellfoss) while exploring the peninsula. This is obviously one of the quintessential views of Iceland, especially from the waterfall. The sun rises behind it so it's worth an early stop if you can swing it. We were there for sunset and it was very much steeped in shadows (but still beautiful).

Parking is a small fee that is paid via an app. There were quite a few people there but it wasn't packed, even at sunset.

Definitely add this one to your itinerary!

Beautifull mountain

Great mountain, which can be photographed in many ways e.g. eatside and westside. Location is also full of several interesting birds e.g. godwits.

Can't Miss it - Worth a Stop
Jul 2021
They say (who ever they is) that this is the most photographed mountain in the country, and when you see it, you will see why. Right on the main road, pull off and take the short hike. The falls are a nice foreground for the majestic mountain rising seaside.

Nice mountain

We stayed for two nights at the horse farm next to Kirkjufell, so we saw it in different weather and times of day, and it was always impressive! It is easy to find and park, and the famous photo op is at the waterfalls with the mountain in the background.

Worth the stop

Beautiful mountain in the sun. Easy to park in lot, you're right there. No hike needed to get a view of the waterfalls with the mountain in the background. You can take a hike up the mountain on the other side of the road but we didn't have the time. Can get in and get out in 20 minutes if you're in a hurry.

Driving on the main road and we saw this mountain appearing from the horizon. Did a quick stop and we did not regret it. The day was sunny and the view was like magic.

One photo op

The photo next to the name of this place, is basically what you're here for. It's in every Iceland travel guide, and it's all you want to do here. There are plenty of nicer places, so just take your photo and move on.

Must see
Jul 2020 • Family
As a Game of Thrones fan I had to see this mountain. Arrowhead mountain:-). Really nice, but it was a cloudy day so did not get the full experience. And somebody had chosen to park an excavator just in front of the mountain when looking at it from the waterfall....

A Must-Visit Mountain at Snæfellsnes Peninsula
Jun 2019
From the parking lot, you could already see how amazing Kirkjufell mountain is! I was pretty much mind-blown. You could admire a series of mini waterfall as you amble around it on the structured walkway. But of course, the star of the show is imperatively the mountain as the backdrop!
