Located at an elevated place, surrounded by Caucasian mountains, thick vegetation, this Fortress is a world heritage site. There is a Sheki Khan Palace, Tourist Information Centre, Crafts Centre and other historical sites to visit inside. Though there is no admission ticket to enter the Fortress, one has to buy tickets to visit Palace and other historical sites. One has to hire a taxi from Sheki to reach this place.

The fortress is located at the top of the old town centre, and encompasses a range of museums, although the fortress walls in themselves are impressive enough.
The main draw, of course, is the Palace of the Khans, but there is also the town art gallery (5 manat with an exceptional tour in English), a local exhibition (free), craft shops, a shebeke exhibition room in the craft centre, a food museum (1 manat - loved it!), and a photo studio where you can dress in traditional clothes to have a memento taken.
There is one cafe, right in the centre. It is spacious and cool, under trees, with lots of birds. I expected it to be over-priced, in the most touristy location, but actually the menu was very cheap. Possibly because the food is rather flavourless..... But it was a nice place to recharge my batteries.

Hiked up the Sheki Fortress on a hot sunny day last week, there’s a lot to see even though it is a smaller fortress compared to some we have seen throughout the lands so far. It’s in pretty good condition as well, we were told parts of it had been restored in the last few decades so that has made a difference and it is interesting to walk around and see it all.

Sheki Fortress was the khan’s citadel in the city of Sheki, which was the capital of the independent Sheki Khanate. Most visitors to Sheki will see the Palace, which is now the only significant structure left inside the walls, so you cannot miss the fortress, some 250 years old. Nowadays, you can have a drink in the cafe or visit some of the craft workshops, most of which specialize in shebeke (the timber lattice with stained glass).

The Sheki Fortress surrounds the Khan Palace and for centuries it has defended the City from the attacks of foreign aggressors. Today, the walls look new after a series of restorations.

The heart of Sheki, and of the good reasons to visit this city. Besides the fortress and its walls, there is also a church inside, the main palace, as well as several buildings dedicated to arts, where you can see the artists working.

From the center of Sheki take minibus 11 to its end stop (0.20 AZN). From there you can enter the walled compound where there are several buildings, the most important of which is the Khan's palace. Most of the time it is quiet and not too hot. I understood that the walls were restored. It is difficult to distinguish between what is original 18th century and what is not. Still worth a visit especially in combination with the Khan's palace and the ethnographic and history museum.

This is the place where Khan saray is located. The fortress is in the nature is a kind of big park including museums, cafes, handcrafts sales inside it. If you climb just a bit to the walls you can enjoy the beautiful nature.

I decided to walk up to Sheki Fortress from my hotel in the town centre. The way was interesting, but a bit long... I came past Juma Mosque, the Kervansaray and various restaurants and tea gardens. Next to the Fortress there is a big parking lot.
I did not find the Fortress special. However, there were a few buildings within its limits that attracted my attention. Thus I went into a building which is an arts and crafts centre with a lot of shops. They offer many Sheki souvenirs like paintings, textiles, music instruments, jewellery, etc. I also visited the atelier of Mr. Resulov Tofig, the Shebeke artist widely known, not only in Azerbaijan. His works of arts are awesome. Afterwards I went through narrow, crooked, labyrinthine lanes without real pavement past the old dilapidated mosque in an overgrown park to the Khan's Winter Palace.
