    Lake + churches
The special charm of Sevanavank is its setting of 2 iconic churches against the background of Lake Sevan, surrounded by mountains. Which makes it a very attractive spot for tourists and weddings . . . which can make a visit a disappointing experience with stairs crowded and entrance to church blocked with boisterous wedding guests. The complex features 2 churches : Surp Arakelots (Holy Apostles) and Surp Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God), they look very similar with cruciform shape and 0ctagonal towers. There must have been older structures of which you can see ruins ; there is also a wonderful collection of Khachkars stacked against the entry wall of the church.

    Stunning veiws
The monasteries of Armenia are well worth the visit due to thier historical significance and the associated stories. Sevanavank is the same but has the added draw of absolutely stunning veiws of the Sevan lake. Its a fair walk up, not difficult though. The views from atop were just stunning. Well worth it.

the most famous monastery in lake sevan
this monastery reminds me a little of monastery of st naum at lake ohrid in north macedonia. in any case, it overlooks lake sevan and the snow-capped mountains (in march). per google map, there is a road up but no car is allowed. so everybody climb the series of stairs up. sevan writer's house is nearby but looks closed/abandoned

Pearl of the Armenian nature world.
Blue-eyed Lake Sevan is the most beautiful lake in Armenia. It's stunning due its numerous colors. it is the main source of irrigation water and provides low cost electricity, fish, recreation, and tourism. Definitely it's worth to visit both lake and the gorgeous monastery Sevananq.

    Esectacular place to visit
The Sevan Monastery and National Park is spectacular place located a the top of a mountain facing the Sevan lake. this lake is the 2nd highest in the world. the mountain used to be an island when the Russian drained the lake then it became a peninsula. the monastery was a place of punishment for the miss behave monks.

As far as monasteries go, this place is pretty small. I think they are still practicing here and most of the buildings are closed. The church happened to be open the day we went and there was a wedding there which was cool. But overall, if you don't have the time, its not worth the trip. As an added note, we were there with a tour and had our own food so we were eating it in the parking lot and one of the restaurant owners started yelling at us that we can't bring our own food. Such a weird experience. She was yelling in my face to stop eating in the middle of a parking lot as I continued to chew and swallow.

The traveler who has already visited some main Armenian churches will not be particularly impressed by the architecture of Sevanavank: only two churches remain here (in the past there were more), moreover somewhat restored in Soviet times, not visible inside (at least when we visited the place).
However, what is truly out of the ordinary is the location of the site, on the top of a hill overlooking Lake Sevan. In turn, the position of the lake, at an altitude of about 1900 m, therefore with the surrounding mountains covered with snow until late spring (when we visited the site), in my opinion gives the traveler a sensation of the sublime, of "elevation towards the 'high'", which fits well with the mystical aura of the churches.
At the foot of the monastery, the tourist suburb that has sprung up near the lake is rather tacky, and crowded with visitors in the summer; but this seems to be the price to pay in the contemporary world.

This is one of the more photographed monasteries in Armenia, and for good reason, the views of the lake behind are beautiful. You have to climb up many flights of stairs to reach the monastery. Didn’t have a tour so besides appreciating the history I’m not sure of it’s historical significance. Lake Sevan is a good place to relax while traveling and if there spend 30 minutes at this monastery.

We stopped by here on the way from Yerevan to Tbilisi. The view of the lake and snow-capped mountains was breathtaking. We didn't get a chance to explore since it was cold, early in the AM and most things were closed. The monastery was beautiful, but the views are the real winner here.

Amazing and beautiful place. But be aware of a strange woman , working in one of the churches. Shouting at visitors (my elderly father) with rude words, while they lit a candle, because one of the candles fekl at a place like this is at the very least not appropriate.

RIP OFF RESTAURANT

There’s a restaurant ahead of you as you come down the steps from the monastery.

There are no prices on anything. A very chatty pushy woman runs the place. We ordered black tea two cups, a coffee and two baklavas. The pastries were dried up and stale , the coffee was half a cup of tepid liquid. The bill was 17 uk pounds. Avoid this place.
