Volcanic Lake
Oct 2019
This Huguangyan Park is located in Mazhang District,Zhanjiang close to Guangdong Ocean university Of China. This Park is beautiful with lake which is very clear and this area is famous for volcanoes ,There are many old-growth trees in the scenic area, the vegetation is dense, and the air is very fresh. If you like history, you can also visit the ancient temples and rock carvings here.it is also a UNESCO site, in side of the park there are museums and temples

Sunday bike trip
Oct 2019 • Solo
Went out for a bikerun on Sunday, and decided to go up to Huguangyan Scenic Area, about 24 km from Wanda where I am staying. The area is very nice, and worth the trip. A nice walk around (7,5 km) the lake. The scenery is beautiful, but shows sign of lacking maintenance if you look abit outside the walk path. Many places to eat and many good clean toilets, so in general a good place. Would benefit all if more info signs translated to English.

There is a few caves, but they are for unknown reason closed of ( maintenance?, or lack of?)
The entrance fee is 50 RMB

For a Sunday trip, it is nice, and if you go by bicycle it is recommended to follow the country road from town, then you are only exposed to the highway for a few km.
Enjoy 😊

Fascinating, though good weather is key

It's a UNESCO world heritage site, so for sure it has a lot of value, just from a general culture perspective.

Like many places in China, weather, pollution, lack of tendering & upkeep, as well as finishing touches are detrimental to many otherwise very worthwhile tourism sites.

Still as a fan of nature, historical & archeological sites, I was keen to see this place, and am pleased I made the effort to do so.

To get there the best way is to take a taxik, expect to pay about CNY 75-80 from downtown Zhanjiang.

Entry fee is CNY 50 / adults, with concessions for elderly & students, as usual.

Geopark around a volcanic crater lake
Jun 2018 • Family
This is a beautiful park where you can stroll around the lake or take an on/off sightseeing “train” that comes by every 15 minutes. Visit a Buddhist temple, a nunnery, and shrines. There are picnic areas, a museum, a playground, but also places so quiet and peaceful you don’t notice the rest.

Day trip

Came here to have a walk and to enjoy the scenic view of the volcano form lake. It was amazing how big the crater is. Overall it was a good walk around the lake. Chose your time to walk as it can be quite hot and humid. One can pack some food and have a family picnic overlooking the lake.

Peace & tranquility
Aug 2016 • Couples
If you are looking to get away from the city for some real peace and quiet then Huguangyan is the place to head. This is only one of two Maar lakes in the world, the other one being in Germany I believe.
The strange thing about this Maar lake is that the water is very clean and clear, so it's alright to go for a paddle.
If meditation is your thing go to Huguangyan.

Was taken there by family members. Decided to walk the distance between the two entrances. Was quite beautiful and quite, was just an nice addition to my knowledge and appreciation of Chinese culture, as my wife is Chinese. Will probable visit the park again on my next visit to China.

Nice scenic attraction
Apr 2016 • Family
Large lake-side scenic park around historic volcanic lake. Many nice landscapes & sights.

Historic temples, caves, gardens, small boats and a rather good obstacle course offer an enjoyable range of things to do. An electric bus offers hop-on hop-off service for those who wish to mix walking & riding.

Transport is about 1.5 hrs from Zhanjiang with the bus at about half-hourly intervals.

Scenic area

Lovely area around a volcanic lake. Kudos to the local government for trying to preserve the area, to teach locals and tourists about the geological formation. Felt like an oasis in the middle of the city. Our daughter loved the opportunity to run around.

Scenic Area with lots of Foliage
May 2012 • Couples
Huguanyan is a beautiful park with a nice walking track around the lake. It is a great place to ride a bike, run, or just stroll. There are a few historical sites and statues to see and a few restaurants. I would recommend taking a picnic lunch and plan to spend the day on the "beach". It is not a place for swimming or sunbathing, but it is a very relaxing atmosphere.

Do not be surprised when you are only able to walk to the lake in a few areas. They do not keep the foliage trimmed or even tamed. As a result, there are very few places you can actually get close to the water.
