The three stars we can only give the old Greeks and/or Romans who built that place (actually they deserved 10 Stars at least).
The area IS free to visit and could be very interesting. The old cobble stone alles dating back B.C. are actually really nice.
BUT: the whole area is neglected and not well looked after. There is rubbish everywhere (bottles, cans, trash of any kind) and the grass is higher than the ruins themselves. There is no information available (at least we have not seen any) and so you wander around without learning that much.
Please, council of Kos, make this treasure beautiful again. It is sad to see these sites of ancient civilisation in such a poor state!

Worth a visit when travelling into town. It is opposite the Roman Odeon. You could easily spend at least an hour at this site exploring the ruins. Do your background reading before hand to learn about what your seeing. Comfy and good shoes is a must with uneven ground. Again free attraction.

We were last in Kos in 2002 and it still looks the same. the ruins are part of their history. I do not think there is any need to try to repair what is on the ground, it is their history, at least it was free.

Not well signposted, we stumbled across it on the at back from Casa Romana. No entrance fee. Lots to see, all ruins (naturally). But was interesting to walk around. If you enter from nearest Casa Romana, give it a chance and walk round the whole thing. It got rather impressive.

This is a must if you are visiting Kos and interested in history. This is an excellent site, easy to find and a very easy walk as its in the old town area. Some mosaics are visible on the floors of some of the dwellings and are in good shape. This is definitely worth a visit. Please note this site is closed on Mondays as we found out!

This site was impressive but a little overgrown in places. Its a pity the earth quake damaged some of the columns. It easy to see how the city was laid out with near complete roads you could imagine Romans walking along the paths. Not many information boards so best to read up about it before going.

If ruins are your thing then there are plenty to see in Kos Town.
It's a pleasant wander. Some have descriptions and details, others require you to fill in the gaps yourself.
But definitely worth seeing.

As extensive as the ancient Agora, but probably because it is not so centrally situated, this site has lacked some of the attention given to its counterpart and it almost feels as though you are the archaeologist making a chance discovery.
Situated almost opposite the odeon and just down the road from the Casa Romana it is probably best to traipse through here after visiting the other two. That's what we did.
There's an extensive mosaic to see towards the north of the site and some columns of the gymnasium are still in situ.
