- dekofnotLeicester, United Kingdom540 contributionsMarvellousWe were very fortunate in having an excellent guide who made the history fascinating and humorous. The 3 d tablet enabling you to visualise what may have been was a real bonus. One thing puzzled me.. was it bad design in making so many steps for sick people or was there a reason.?Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 30, 2023
- Lee GExeter, United Kingdom28 contributionsA large historical site with plenty to seeWe were surprised by how much there was to see. We went at the end of the day and it was quiet. There were information boards detailing the site and how it would have looked, which was helpful. There are guides around the site that can answer questions. Well worth a visit.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 1, 2024
- SpiderdogCheshire, United Kingdom8,123 contributionsMost Important Site On KosA "must see" main attraction if you visit Kos. This is a huge site in an idyllic location and despite the number of visitors arriving while we were there the crowds were absorbed easily and it never seemed too busy· it's a great place to wander around and each level is well signed with details explaining the main points of interest. My only complaint was that some of the writing had been bleached by the sun and in parts was difficult to read. It's the most important historical site on Kos and we surprised by the scale of it and easily spent several hours here.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 17, 2024
- Christoffer CNarvik, Norway122 contributionsOkay, educational experience. We had a rental car and found plenty of parking spaces. It’s a nice place that was very relaxing, and there weren’t many other people there. We arrived quite late, just before closing time. The toilets at the entrance were dirty and lacked both soap and paper, which suggests poor cleaning maintenance. The man sitting in the ticket booth seemed like he had seen better days, as he appeared grumpy and not very satisfied with his job. The ruins were very impressive, and you got a good sense of how large everything actually was. It seems like they have used digital screens before, but these weren’t working, just like the access gates, which must have had their heyday, as they weren’t working either.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 3, 2024

We were shocked of the poor organisation. The visit of Asclepion in fact ruined our day. First we were told to get the mini train. it turned out that mini trains have cancelled the route to Asclepion for this year but it has not been properly announced. So we arrived by taxi. The driver assured us that there is a bus coming every 40 min or so. We stopped at the coffee shop where the bus information was confirmed.
Asclepion is nice for a walk, water, hat and sun protection cream are recommended. There is an amazing view from the top reaching the turkish coast.
After the walk, we went to wait for the bus. More than 1 hour later we asked again at he coffee shop whether the bus exists. This time we were told that it probably comes rarely because of the lower season this year, but still comes. After another 1 hour, we asked the at coffee shop to call for a taxi. More than two wasted hours!
Instead of being proud with Asclepion and organise a proper information and transportation, Kos authority managed to turn this visit into a nightmare.

Asklepieion is situated just outside Kos city on a hill with astunning view on the city.
The restauration has been done very minimal except the stairs you need to go up but you can imagine well how it looked over 200 years ago. Explanation is also limited in English and already faded by the sun. Maintenance should be done better.
Nice trip with a great finale at the exit / entrance where you have the nicest small cafe to drink fresh made fruit juice, slush puppy's or a cold draft beer in a frozen glass from the fridge, excellent!

AMAZING location. Marvelously conserved.
At the exit reslly nice to grab a refreshment at the canteen of the museum. The only misfit, one lady working as a rector at the Epigrafiko museum was rude with the visitors. She yelled at him in greek.

Compared to other attractions I found the 8 euro entry fee (per person) over priced.
The scale of the site is impressive but it's all much the same and theirs little information on display to tell you what you're looking at. The 'museum' was no bigger than our budget hotel room .

We went here about 9am and it was perfect! Fantastic scenery with a peaceful silence with the exception of the noises made by the crickets and the birds. Could have sat for hours listening to it, watching the handful of artists drawing and taking in the scenery and ruins. There isn't a massive amount of information but you can let you mind imagine what it would be like.

Not far off the main road these ruins are well worth a visit. We visited as a family of 4 and we're just charged for the 2 adults so Eur16 and our teenagers were free. There's a cafe and toilets. The site has lots to see with an optional guide.

This is a huge site and there is enough to be able to imagine the Asklepion in its heyday. Interpretation was limited and there is a pay-on-entry, although it is hard to identify where any of the entry charge has been spent recently. Some large staircases take you up through the levels. Questions such as what individual rooms may have been, or the purpose of exposed clay pipes, sadly remained unadressed by the limited information.

Cycled up here from Kos town, bit uphill but all doable. Costs 8euros each to get in to the large site. Great to see where Hippocrates trained, you can just make out the consulting rooms and the hydrotherapy pools on level 1 then up to the next level for the temples. Lots of steps but I think you can turn left just after the entrance for accessible access. No food allowed so we had to eat our picnic outside after a delicious freshly squeezed orange juice from the cafe at the entrance.

Fascinating site of archeological significance, well presented and well preserved.
There is a small charge to enter (€8) but if that’s what it costs to maintain sites such as these it’s a small price to pay.
A few more information boards wouldn’t go a miss.
The views are outstanding from the top and make for great photo opportunities.
Worth a visit.

This is in my view, if you have any interest at all in history, a MUST SEE in Kos. The ruins are incredible and there is evidence of civilisation across multiple periods of the site, with some beautiful things to find. There are signs that are legible and accurate (an improvement on the agora for example) and informative. I’d still recommend reading up before you go though. There are toilets, a cafe and there are lots of trees so you can seek shade regularly. Take suncream, water and a hat!

Hi, I visited Kos and Asklepieion many years ago and have a desire to visit again to spend more time there. I also recall a very quant harbour and Taverna nearby where I would like to stay for a few days. Do you happen to know the name of this Harbour and any nearby Tavernas offering accommodation? Many thanks. Alan

We have just stayed at the Kosta Palace on the harbour in Kos Town which we would highly recommend but there is lots of accomodation in that area for around £30 per night which you can check out on booking websites

Hi Alan. Unfortunately I can not help you. It was my first trip at the island. However if I were you I would ask where Antonas fish tavern is in Kos.
