I was on 8-day trek to Kashmir Great Lakes and I must confess that it is one of the prettiest treks that I have done till date. You scale an altitude from 9100 to 13750 ft and back to 7450 ft approx from day 0 to day 8. The trek is a combination of moderate to steep ascends, plains followed by a steep continuous descend on the last day which is a real test on your knees and toes. You cover an average of 10 to 12 kms each day and trek for 6 to 7 hours. Id rate the 3rd day, last day and the 1st day as the most difficult -in that order . But the effort is worth every bit since you are rewarded with some spectacular lakes, beautiful meadows, gushing streams and a bed of yellow and purple flowers throughout! A few mandatory things are- 1. a walking stick(absolutely must), a raincoat or poncho (must) and layers of clothing especially for the night. Ensure you are well hydrated and watch out for AMS symptoms. Do not scale up or down too quickly. Id rate the trek moderate-difficult. PS : some of the comments i read below state that the trek can be easily done by 60 and 70 year olds.. Well, I did see hefty men and women and 60 /70 year olds…struggling during ascends and descends and finally pulling of their trek on mules and horses.. (as if the burden of the luggage is not enough for the poor animals already!) If this is your version of trek, then god save you..I wouldn’t recommend KGL for such age groups and freshers until you have an extraordinary stamina! I went with Mountain Magic Trek n Tours Adventures, the arrangement was good, the helpers and the guide were good, food was great! Good bunch of people overall, however, the team was professional, sensitive and responsible in their dealings with customers

One day, if you wake up in the meadows of Kashmir on your trek to Tarsar Marsar, in that moment, your entire life is going to dissolve into a distant dream. As though you have just crossed the threshold and come to heaven. The famous couplet of the Persian poet shall ring true— if there is a paradise on earth, it is here, it is here, it is here! The valley of Kashmir is an experience that may rob the most masterful wordsmith off adjectives, but never fail to brew unceasing lyricism in the heart of her beholders. Kashmirs inherent classical romanticism aside, there are some things exclusively special to trekking and the Tarsar Marsar twin lakes trek brings all of them together. Grasslands like velvet, walking through hovering pine trees that are beautiful and fragrant, little thatched roofed hamlets peopled by beautiful humans, perfect stillness of azure waters, and camping by the glacial lakes which give the trek its name. Whats more wonderful, on practical trekking terms, Tarsar Marsar doesnt charge a great deal of physical challenge, acclimatization prerequisites, or exhaustion.

I would to begin by saying I take utmost privilege and honor to compliment Ibrahim Bhai and his travel company Mountain Magic trek and tours for their expertise in making travel arrangements!  He is a local and has an incredible grasp of the land .  His connection with key people in the tailored needs of tour groups is remarkable. Coming to the so awaited trip to one of the most beautiful place on the face of earth. The trip primarily included visit to Pahalgam, Gulmurg and Srinagar. Every place had a different yet thrilling experience to offer. Trek in Pahalgam, adventure activities in Gulmurg, house boat experience in Srinagar, the Kashmiri delicacy and the kamhmiriyat of the people. Could I have asked for more - ABSOLUTELY NO.! First thing first, “This was an amazing trip! There were so many highlights...from the amazing guide Ibrahim bhai to outstanding photographer and mountain lover brother Abhinav to the other Co-travel buddies Manjunath, Nishant, Priyanka and karan; all just added to the beauty of the place!!. The trip was so organised seemlessly. To put it in nutshell, Not only everything was perfect, but we felt, in every instance and that our guides became like a family to us and cared about us, and did their best to make this trip memorable. This definitely has become the most eye-opening, adventurous, and stunning journey of my life - something I am going to remember, draw upon, and cherish for many years to come “ Honestly I cannot think of a way this trip could have been better. We were so well cared for and it is definitely a memorable trip !” I will definitely be back and I highly recommend Ibrahim bhai for your arrangements. He is ‘Five Star’ in all respects.

When you sign up for a 'Mountain Magic Trek N Tours' you have to understand that life after this experience will be a little tough for you. You might find it hard dealing with people back home, once you return. The reason for that is - Ibrahim bhai and his team of ‘Yes Men’. I recently got a chance to visit Kashmir for the first time in my life and had a lot of anxiety about the place, people and situation, before the trip because of obvious reasons. But by the last day of my trip, I was convinced in my head that I am going to ditch my annual Goa trip for 2 Kashmir’s trip every year. Everything I experienced, I owe it to the excellent team of Mountain Trek. Not even once throughout our stay, I heard any of them say words like “No”, “Not now” or “Not possible”. From the face of it, their hotel called ‘Brown Palace’ might not appear as a luxurious stay but apart from a bathtub, you get everything that you need. They have electric blankets and room heaters to keep you warm along with big geysers in the bathrooms to help you kick start your day with a hot steaming showers. The charm about the stay is the common living area where everyone staying there gathers for meals and unlimited rounds of Kehwa. They have all kind of trekking gear available with an in-house talented photographer in Saba, who’ll click some amazing pictures of you while you trek the snow clad mountains of Lidder Valley. My trip included a stay at Pahalgam for 3 nights followed by 2 nights at Gulmarg and a night in houseboat at Srinagar. Ibrahim bhai was with us throughout our stay and made all the arrangements like - Mountain Biking when it was snowing hard at Gulmarg to Trainers who gave us a day long Ski session. When you sign up with a team like this, you not only create memories but also friends for a lifetime.
