Rafaela, Argentina61 contributions24 helpful votes
Always at the center of Rafaela's downtown life, Plaza 25 de Mayo has seen all the changes as the city bloomed from its roots as a small colony (even with a railroad crossing at its center, now dissapeared) to today's vibrant everyday rhythm. It stands with an eclectic collection of sculptures and murals remembering many of those changes (not only in the city, but also in the surrounding area and Argentina itself) as tokens of bygone years, like its central statue of Gral. San Martin. Surrounded by many of the city's main buildings (Town Hall, San Rafael Cathedral, the Historical Museum) and banks, it's a true landmark where people gather on the weekends for music shows by the city's orchestra, a monthly crafts open market or just to drink some mate with friends in the sun.
