Collection of calligraphy and other items of Jao Tsung-I
Nov 2018 • Solo
The Jao Tsung-I Academy is found in one of the historic properties along Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida just past Tap Seac Square. It is open from 10am to 6pm daily (closed on Mondays). Entry is free to the public.

This is a nice property located in a row of colonial buildings from the turn of the 20th century. Within you can view Chinese calligraphy and other works previously owned by renowned Hong Kong artist and scholar, Jao Tsung-I.

You can conveniently stop by the Jao Tsung-I house if you planning to visit attractions around St. Lazarus district and are making your way to the Lou Lim Ieok Garden. It is along the way.

Jao Tsung-I Academy, is a museum where commemorate Mr Jao Tsung-I, a Chinese scholar, poet, calligrapher and painter, widely honoured as “master of Sinology”
The original site is residential apartment transform into cultural facilities, built in 1921. The columns, arches, keystone, ceiling and fences have gorgeous decoration. Outside the architecture with Portuguese colonial style, but the interior is full of Chinese furniture and decoration style. This historic heritage is original prohibited for public access. It is a very new emerged tourist spot where is gaining attention by Chinese cultural lover.
The Academy exhibit a lots of painting and calligraphies donated by Mr. Jao as a permanent exhibition. The public can appreciate the masterpiece of professor’s calligraphies. The Academy contains an exhibition room and an assembly hall, for the purpose of promoting Chinese culture and arts and academic exchange related to sinological studies.
I would recommend people who love Chinese cultural and enjoy calligraphies can visit the Academy. It is free of charge and have a tour guild if you book in advance. “中流自在心” is the theme of the exhibition, it general means ourselves are different from others and we should maintain the spirit of comfortable and freedom. A lots of calligraphies are unconstrained and intense personal style. If we are first time experiencing Chinese cultural, I think it will be an impressive and memorable trip.

Dec 2015 • Couples
The Jao Tsung-I Academy (free entry) is a recently opened attraction in Macau where you can view important paintings and calligraphies donated by renowned Sinologist, Jao Tsung-I. The collection is housed in one of the historic buildings situated along Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida. Opening Hours are 10-6pm daily but closed on public holidays.

This historic property is a Portuguese colonial house that has been unavailable for public visitations for at least a decade. It is such a delight to have public access and to be able to view it from the inside. You can also explore the front and back patio area. Make sure to find the old water well in the back patio. This is quite neat as is viewing the unique colonial architecture of this building up close.

Within the Jao Tsung-I Academy, you can view a downstairs library and gallery room with calligraphy works. Upstairs, you'll find more of the collection. The Jao Tsung-I collection as well as the building itself make for good reasons to stop by for a visit if you are in this area of Macau.

Note: The Jao Tsung-I Academy is neatly situated directly between Tap Seac Square and Lou Lim Ieok and can be conveniently visited in 10-15 minutes by those seeking to explore this lovely area of Macau.
