Attractive statue in front of the Ruins in St. Paul's
Feb 2020
There is an interesting statue at Largo da Companhia de Jesus just in front of the steps leading up to the Ruins of St. Paul's. What you will see is a young Chinese girl passing over a lotus flower to a young Portuguese boy, framed by a tilted loop with a crane flying overhead. The monument is usually surrounded by hedges or holiday decorations.

This statue is a symbol of the friendship between China and Portugal and is one of a handful of monuments around the city related to the reunification of Macau from Portugal to China as well as the cordial terms between the two nations.

You can take nice pictures of the statue with the Ruins in the background. If you want unobscured pictures, make sure to visit early in the morning before the tourist groups arrive and crowds set in for the day.

The Friendship between Mainland China and Macau in a relic of the Portuguese occupation
Oct 2019
Just at the bottom of the steps to the Ruins of St Paul's Church is this Friendship Statue (as known to locals) which shows the friendship between Mainland China and Macau. And instagrammable spot but otherwise offers little in way of information about the origins and meaning of the statue.

Symbol of friendship between China and Portugal
Apr 2018 • Solo
An interesting thing to see at the Largo da Companhia de Jesus is the Friendship Statue.

This is a monument featuring a young Chinese girl handing over a lotus flower to a young Portuguese boy. The two figures are encompassed with a tiled loop which hold the figures together in the symbolic form of friendship between China and Portugal.

The statue is surrounded by small hedges and is well decorated during holiday seasons. Stand behind the Friendship Statue and you can take pictures which include the Ruins of St. Paul's.

Macau Friendship Statue

A nice place, at first I thought they were lovers and this is about courtship but when I research about the place it was actually a friendship statue (Symbolic landmark for their friendship with Spain ) 🤔 a reminder to us that friendship is always a nice thing 😁

Charming
Aug 2017 • Solo
I find this to be such a charming statue, a Chinese girl giving a lotus flower to a Portuguese boy, symbolizing friendship between the two cultures. But I was very disappointed that in trying to photograph it, one cannot block out all the commercial logos in the background, in every angle! Another surprise is that I saw no evidence of the artist's name, and haven't found it in subsequent research, either.

Symbolic East meets West figure located at the steps leading up to the Ruins of St. Paul
Apr 2015 • Couples
The Friendship Statue is the informal name of the small statue you can see in the square set before the steps leading up to the Ruins of St. Paul.

Here you see a young Chinese girl handing over a lotus flower, a symbol of purity, to a young Portuguese boy. The two figures are slightly intertwined by a tilted loop that seems to hold the figures in the same time and space. The image is to symbolise the friendship between China and Portugal.

At times during the year, this statue is surrounded by planted flowers and other vegetation, especially during important holidays like Chinese New Year. At other times the statue is on its own. Regardless, it is an attractive inclusion to the area and makes for good photographs with the Ruins of St. Paul in the background.
