The ancient Tin Hau Temple in Coloane Village
Feb 2020
There are a handful of temples around Macau dedicated to Tin Hau (Goddess of the Heavens) including this ancient temple built just off of Ave. de Republica in the Coloane.

Constructed in 1763, this is the oldest and largest temple in the village. It is found near the back of the village up a set of stairs from the street. The temple architecture is very much what you would expect of those built during the Qing Dynasty.

The exterior is grey brick with Chinese characters on both sides of the entrance door. There are murals just above the entrance and two sets of guardian lions protect the temple in front. Within, you will find traditional decor, ancient bell and drum, an interesting wooden boat carving, vases as well as the feature shrine with an attractive image of Tin Hau.

Overall, the ancient Tin Hau temple is a nice attraction to see if you are planning to spend time in Coloane and want to check out the temples around the village.

Oldest temple in Coloane Village
Feb 2019 • Solo
There are a few temples dedicated to Tin Hau in Macau including this temple on Avenida da Republica in Coloane. It is one of a handful of traditional Chinese temples you can visit in the village.

Note this is not the A-Ma cultural village Tin Hau temple which several previous posters have provided review for.

This Tin Hau temple is the oldest in Coloane being originally built in 1763. The facade is of traditional architecture. There are stone lions guarding the entrance and nice murals above the door. Within, you'll find open courtyard with hanging incense, shrines with deities, a nicely carved wooden ship, iron bell and other interesting items of worship.

Overall, the Tin Hau Temple in Coloane is a nice attraction to see if you are sightseeing around the village and want to check out the temples.

Such a holy place..

We went up through the free shuttle service. The place is so quite where you can meditate. Local workers are fixing damages due of the typhoon. I got a chance to pray and ask for guidance.

Chinese temple
Oct 2016 • Couples
We took a shuttle bus to go up the hill to reach this temple. It is hard to walk up the hill as the road formed zigzag trail road going up. there are many people who prefer to walk rather than ride the bus. The shuttle bus will wait 30 minutes since there are not much people going there. Once you go up, there is a peaceful ambiance and the view is perfect. It shows the beach and a white large statue nearby. This is a sacred place so there are many rules (eg. no rubbish around, be silent, no cameras inside). So we have to respect their rules. I recommend tourist to come here to experience Chinese culture in worshiping their belief.

It's a bit hard to get to, the statue of A-Ma is impressive
Oct 2016
Visit only if you have several days in Macau as this place is a bit hard to reach. The temple itself is nothing special, but the statue of A-Ma is worth taking some photos.

Buses 15, 21A, 25, 26, 26A, 50 and N3 go here and it's open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Very beautiful temple

It's a bit difficult to have access to the place. You have to take a bus from the city centre than a free shuttle that runs every 30 minutes. But it's worthwhile going there, you will be able to visit the temple and see the statue of the goddess A-Ma.

Peaceful relaxing Temple
Nov 2015 • Couples
We took a visit here and was amazed. We were not expecting what we saw. The architecture, painting, statues, rock and woodwork were exquisite. There were not many people there at the time so it was very peaceful and quiet. After viewing all we could we walked up a little hill about 50 metres to see the A-Ma goddess statue. The statue looked over Macau and stands 20 metres tall. Good views around Coloane and coati strip. if you like there is a little picnic ground and place for the children to play.

Amazing Temple
May 2015 • Friends
What an awesome sight from the bottom of the steps - the intricate detailing in the building considering the age of the building is amazing and gave us some amazing photo opportunities.

Once inside the courtyard it doesn't disappoint either - fascinating !!

Whilst here make the effort to climb the hill to see the A-Ma Goddess Statue which is stunning and the views from the top are great - well worth a visit.

Tin Hau Temple: Oldest temple in Coloane Village
Feb 2015 • Couples
Tin Hau is the largest temple in Coloane and is located at the back of the village, accessed by a flight of steps off of Avenida da Republica. It is one of 4 different temple visits you can make as part of the Memorable Buildings of Coloane heritage walk.

The Tin Hau Temple was built in 1763, making it the oldest in Coloane. Architecturally it is similar to the other temples in Coloane as well as most found spread around Macau. The interior of the temple is large enough to walk around and take nicer pictures of the altar, shrines and an interesting wooden ship that can be seen here.

In the end, we like Tin Hau Temple and find it worth visiting when seeing the sights in Coloane. You can see everything comfortably in 10-12 minutes before moving on to additional attractions included on the Memorable Buildings of Coloane heritage walk.
