Early 20th-century hotel showing its age near Senado Square
Nov 2018 • Solo
This is an early 20th-century hotel located just off Senado Square in the Historic Centre of Macau. It is a tall, teal-green coloured property that was quite popular and important back in its glory days. Sadly, those times have long past. The old hotel is really showing its age. It is in need of major restorations.

You can see the old Hotel Central when walking along Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro just after you pass Senado Square. It can also be seen very clearly from within Senado Square.

In the end, the best thing about this property from a tourist perspective is that it at least matches the colour scheme of the other historic buildings that make up Senado Square. This way it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb when you are taking pictures.

Early 20th century hotel - a shell of its former self
Feb 2019 • Couples
Hotel Central an 11-storey building situated along Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro just off Senado Square. Originally constructed in 1928, Hotel Central (also known as President's Hotel) was expanded to its present height in 1942.

Interestingly, this was the first building in Macau with lifts and during its glory days it had casinos and was an important meeting place foreign expats and diplomats. Sadly, the times haven't treat Hotel Central particularly well. Today, the property is a shell of its former self - really showing its age. Still a hotel, Hotel Central is now one of the cheapest and lowest grade accommodations in the city.

Just have a look at the outside of the building from Senado Square or when walking along Almeida Ribeiro. The building continues to tower well above all others in the area so you can't miss it. Hopefully in the future, Hotel Central will be restored to its former glory as what is available to be seen presently leaves much to be desired from a historical and tourist perspective.

I don't know how to describe it!
Nov 2014
It has the cheapest offer of all hotels but the building is so ancient, and the reception people where just grabbers of money, seemed to me. The worst hotel I've ever been to, after paying 300 HKD for a night and asked you for 20 more if you want aircon or whatever. It was a total ripped off.

Hotel Central: The teal coloured historic building at Senado Square - Just have a look!
Apr 2014 • Couples
Hotel Central was built in 1928 on Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro just past the historic Senado Square. This was an important hotel and gathering place for foreign expats, visitors and diplomats during the early and mid 20th century.

Unfortunately, the old Hotel Central has become greatly overshadowed by more interesting attractions that make up Historic City Centre of Macau. It is not included in most guidebooks for Macau nor will you find much information outside of the Macau Historical Archives.

Today, many only recognise Hotel Central as the big teal coloured building off Senado Square. It is now occupied by small commercial businesses on the bottom floors. However, the building exterior architecture remains unchanged, so it is nice to look at from up close and across the street.

You can see Hotel Central very clearly from Senado Square. In addition to its bright and unique colour you'l see large red Chinese signage on its top. Look closely, and you will see a small 'Hotel Central' sign just below the Chinese writing. You can view the building from the square and walk around it, viewing the landmark from street level as well. Have a quick look and then you can focus your efforts and energies on many of the other attractions found in this historic area of Macau.

Tip: Hotel Central is included in the 'Footprints of Painter Gao Jianfu' historic walk which is sponsored by the Department of Cultural Activities and Recreation of Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau. You can visit their Macau Streets website to learn more information about similar historic walks in Macau.
