Great insight and clear signs

I learned quite a lot in less than an hour. I stamped my ticket (interactive displays) and admired the craftsmanship.

A view into the pawnshop heyday of early 20th-century Macau
Apr 2018 • Solo
The Tak Seng Pawnshop an interesting attraction on Avenida Almeida Ribeiro. Built in 1917, this is an interesting view into the pawnshop industry that thrived in struggling Macau during the first half of the 20th century.

Here you will find a small exhibition including items typical for the the day to day running of the early pawnshops in Macau. Visitors can will see and explore as a vault room and upstairs storage used to hold valuable possessions and pawned items in the past.

You can combine your visit to the Pawnshop Museum with the fellow heritage attraction, the Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society building which is just next door. Combined both can be seen in as little as 15-20 minutes for those wanting to explore lesser known attractions in the World Heritage area of Macau.

Hidden museum in Av. Almeida Ribeiro
Aug 2018 • Friends
Old pawn shop converted in museum in the busy Av. Almeida Ribeiro (Sun Ma Lo), entrance is very discreet (building was kept very close to original) so if pass by it you would never guess it is a Museum. Went there with some friends and entrance was free. 15 to 20 min visit will do it as is only to see how a pawn shop was structured in the old days.

Interesting
Jun 2018 • Family
Never pawned anything, so was my first visit to such a place. A little bare with not much signage. Having said that, was a good enough place for a short visit. The storage chamber, cupboards and safes were fascinating. Some of the equipment used, was on display. No entry fee was charged.

Interesting place. Rare opportunity to be inside a Pawn Shop
Apr 2017 • Solo
The museum is conveniently located.
Opens 7 days 10:30am to 19:00.
The only rest day is first Monday of every month.
It shows how the Pawn shop stored their goods. How a Pawn shop looks like inside. Interesting. 15 minutes visit will do.

Seventh stop on the 'Footsteps into the Historic Centre' Walking Route in Macau
Jul 2016 • Couples
The Traditional Pawn Shop Museum is the 7th attraction on the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) 'Footsteps in the Historic Centre' self-walking tour which allows visitors to explore parts of the UNESCO World Heritage area as well as other interesting historic and heritage places around the City Centre.

The 'Footsteps in the Historic Centre' walk starts at Avenida da Praia Grande, making several stops at Senado Square before continuing north to attractions along Ave. Almeida Ribero, starting with the Traditional Pawn Shop Museum.

This museum (free entry) is located at the historic Tak Seng Pawn Shop building, which was owned by merchant Kou Ho Neng. The building architecture is preserved with upstairs vault rooms, safes and floors where pawned items where held. While there is little to actually see within, this is a neat property and provides glimpse into what a pawn shop might have been like in the 19th and early 20th century. Opening hours are 10.30am to 7pm daily (closed on Mondays).

Allow 10-20 minutes for a quick stop at the Pawn Shop Museum. Then visit the Tung Sin Tong Clinic next door before making your way to other attractions that make up the 'Footsteps in the Historic Centre' self-walking tour.

Note: Other stops on the 'Footsteps of the Historic Centre' route include Avenida da Praia Grande, several attractions at Senado Square; including Leal Senado, The Old Post Office, St. Dominic's Church and Van Sam Kai Vui Kun Temple. You will then see the Tung Sin Tong Clinic building, Carpentry Guildhall, Rua de Camilo Pessanha, Rua da Felicidade, the Cheng Peng Theatre, Rua da Caldeira, followed by stops at and around Praca de Ponte e Horte and inner harbour.

Boring historic building.
Jul 2015 • Solo
I went to there in order to understand the culture of pawn in Macau. But i think it is a little boring for me because there are not so much thing that we can visit. A part of it is not allowed being shown for visiting. And the stuff there is not so friendly as well. But there are still something we can visit. There are many magnifying glasses for us to play. My recommendation is that you should visit there when it is sunny because the light there is too dark.

Genuine pawnshop of old
May 2015 • Friends
The setup at the entrance was interesting with a screen behind which the person who was pawning something had to look up at the staff sitting in the caged area. The storage area is in a tower-like building in the back. As the storage area upstairs was dark, we wondered how the staff was able to retrieve the correct package when it was redeemed. The code used to record the articles being pawned is very interesting. We tried to learn it but realized that it would take a fairly long time. You can be in and out in around 15 minutes. But if you read and look at everything closely, you will be spending an hour or more of enjoyment. The admission is MOP$5.

Interesting glimpse of the past
Jan 2015 • Friends
On Avenida Almeida Ribeiro near Senado Square, this is a look at a bygone era. take a few minutes to ponder the high clerical cages inside the door and climb the multi storage wooden storage vault in back. You won't be here more than a half hour, but it's worth a visit.

Authentic and charming century old pawnshop
May 2014 • Friends
Indeed worth it to visit! If u like antique, it's a must. Very cheap entry fee and not a big place. Took half an hour for us to finish taking photos. But beware of climbing up he stairs at the warehouse area. It's abit creepy there. My sis felt pain at her tummy area as we went up. She thought she saw some shadows. We left the pawnshop and took a bus right outside the pawnshop to anpther destination. But we couldn't find the place we wanted to go and ended up getting down the bus right outside the pawnshop main entrance. It's very dirty.... we had a chilling experience when we saw the main entrance right in front of us. Bring some amulets or religious emblem with you when you go to places with some history. That places is full of ghosts.
