An interesting place that I like to pass by from time to time is the old Catholic cemetery and St. Micheal's Chapel in the St. Lazarus District. Opening hours 8am to 6pm daily.

The cemetery was created for the Catholic community of Macau and contains some beautiful tombs with sculptures of angels, busts and other statues that are enjoyable to see and photograph. Some of the earlier headstones date back to the mid to late 19th century.

The chapel is a light teal coloured building attractively placed in the centre of the cemetery. It was built in 1875 and is worth a brief look around as well. This is a single church room with a small altar and stain-glassed windows.

You can conveniently include a visit to the St. Micheal's Cemetery and Chapel when spending time in the St. Lazarus and Tap Seac area of Macau. Give it a 10-20 minute look around before continuing onward with other intended sightseeing in the area.

For those weirdo who like to walk through cemeteries - like me - this is a beautiful old cemetery to photograph and get away from the hustle and bustle of Macau for a short time.

Maybe a mint green chapel is not to everyone's taste, but it is a great spot to while away a few minutes. Lovely stained glass in this chapel plus a jam packed, well maintained graveyard that dates back over 200 years.

An interesting place to pass by in the St. Lazarus district is the old Catholic cemetery and St. Micheal's Chapel, which dates back to 1875. Entry is free, opening hours 8am to 6pm daily.

The cemetery is filled with intriguing headstones, sculptures and tombs of both Western and local Chinese Catholics. Some nice photography practice can be found within the cemetery grounds. The chapel has a green and white exterior and small but intimate interior hall. You can conveniently visit all in 10-20 minutes.

The chapel and cemetery were completely enclosed by a wall so it was not obvious what it was until I wandered by the entrance. The blue colored chapel caught my eye and lured me into cemetery. The cemetery was filled with unique headstones of various sizes and designs for both westerners and asians occupants. They were very tightly packed together.

The small chapel on a slight incline and looked out over the cemetery. The color and stained glass were very nice.

I did not spend more than 15 minutes here. Not one I would go out of my way to visit but if in the area or need to use the lavortories (there was one right by the entrance) then stop by.

Very peaceful complex of chapel and cemetery. Each tomb has its own commemorating decoration. The skyblue painting of the chapel is lovely.

When you arrive at Macau, usually from Harbour you can walk to Park and Guia Fortress... from the top you will see all casinos, old town buidings, .... and if you pay attention, you will see a flash green Chapel in the middle of gray city ... this will be your next destination ;)
Easy to reach, enjoy this area and relax your mind in a peaceful walk inside and around. Take time to look also on a lot of specific graveyards...
Enjoy and respect (if funerals on going)

In this little graveyard, you will find a little chapel with beautiful stained glass windows. The graveyard is like the art museum with beautiful angels sculptures and decorations. Very unique in Macau, where East meets West.

Using a tourist map provided by our hotel, Royal Hotel located in the old town, we commenced our walk through the back streets of the Old Town. Within 10 minutes we were at the beautiful small chapel of St Michael.

As the photos show it is old and beautiful. Entry is free and for those who like looking at headstones there are plenty in this well kept cemetery.
