Notwithstanding the fact that there is an entrance fee, this place is not really that an amazing place to visit. Firstly, it closes during lunch hour! So if you are there at the wrong time, the place is closed. What a weird tourist attraction.
Secondly, the exhibits are lovely, I must say, but unless you have great interest in the history of the church, this might not be the most exciting place to visit.
The admission fee is not much (USD1), but the whole experience is simply... AVERAGE.

period.

Good architecture and a hidden gem view of Senado Square from the upstairs balcony
May 2018 • Solo
An interesting World Heritage attractions at Senado Square is the Holy House of Mercy. Originally established in 1569, for several centuries the building served as girls' orphanage and public health clinic modelled after the Santa Casa de Misericodia charity of Portugal.

Today the Holy House of Mercy houses a three room museum (MOP5 per person) filled with religious artefacts, porcelain and other items of historic interest. A hidden gem also awaits visitors in the second floor balcony, which overlooks Senado Square. This is one of the very best views of the Historic Centre of Macau that most visitors never learn about.

It is easy to pop in and pay a quick visit to the Holy House of Mercy while exploring around Senado Square. Views from the balcony alone are worth the small entry fee.

santa casa da misericordia of macau

this tourist attraction is known as the oldest institution of beneficence in macau. it was established in 1569 and underwent renovations in the 19th century.

its entrance is through a small cul de sac that can be a photogenic background of some selfies. an elderly man would welcome you as you stepped inside the place.

if you’re done observing all the religious artifacts, you can go upstairs to the veranda which can give you a panoramic view of the senate square below.

try allotting a few minutes to explore the museum even with limited time. you’ll not regret it.

Worth visiting
Oct 2017 • Family
The Museum of The Holy House of Mercy of Macau is also known as Santa Casa Da Misericordia. It is located in Senado Square. The building is quite an attractive one.

This is a museum that shows aspects of religious history. The curator is an elderly gentleman.

The displays are well presented. From the balcony you get a great view of Senado Square.

If your interest is in religious history, then it is worth a visit.

Good time spent indeed!

You won't miss this white building as you are walking at the Senado Square. Before you reach the entrance of the museum (on your right side), you will first see a picturesque small lane right next to this white building. When you looked into this lane, it made you feel as if you have been transported to some old buildings at the European countries. Definitely a photo opp moment but also good for a quick walk up and down to see the surrounding building structure and design too.
Onto the museum, the main entrance is more than enough to enchant you to walk if you are on who are into historical building and architectural design. There are so many artefacts to see and you can check the items one by one by reading the descriptions provided on the visitor booklet.
I think it is great that the museum is managed by the elderly. When I went there I was greeted by an elderly man who not only provide guidance on the areas to look at but also put a visit stamp on my ticket for keepsakes.
Also do not forget to step out to the verandah area as you can sit and relax there as well. You can also have a good view of the surrounding of the Senado Square - another good photo opp and do some people watching too ;)
All these for just MOP5!

Good religious museum
Feb 2016 • Friends
This a decent religious museum. Depicts a good picture of European region from history. Well preserved artifacts. As a non religious person myself it wasn't to my liking. The artifacts are well preserved and have english descriptions. The museum is well signposted and easy to find. It provides a good view from the balcony. Entry fee was 10 dollars and the curator was very nice man. Worth a look if you have a free 30 minutes

Well preserved building and impressive artifacts
Jul 2015
Being interested in colonial art, I thoroughly enjoyed some quiet time looking at the collection of Jesuit artefacts particularly the religious statues, ceramics, and finely crafted relief stamps. The house is well preserved and the collection well-curated. I wish more visitors in Macau take time to go over this collection.
