Pastelaria Chui Heong is a Macanese almond cookie specialist that has been making and serving up these delicious local snacks since 1958. This my favourite place for Macanese almond cookies on the Macau Peninsula.
They are located along Rua do Gamboa in between Rua de Felicidade and Praca Ponte E Horta on the Macau Peninsula and are open from 10.30am to 6.30pm daily.
This is a place you can expect to find a queue of locals and travellers in the know when it comes to great almond cookies. They have a menu which clearly shows items available and prices are better than what you find at the pastelarias in more centrally located parts of Macau.
Almond cookies are sold in a variety of box sizes. You can buy their most popular yellow box of 10 pieces (MOP34). the cookies are made of crushed almonds, flour and other secret ingredients. One that stands out are the chunks of almond, much larger than what you normally find in local almond cookies. I enjoy eating them with a cup of coffee back home.
Another reason I like buying from Pastelaria Chui Heong is to watch them making the almond cookies within the shop. It is a good opportunity to see the production process before purchasing and enjoying your almond cookies.

On our day trip to Macau, and this ever busy shop was exactly as it was 3 years ago when we came. The whiff of almond pastry baked by the unique basket method wlecomed us.
Of course we bought some, and hand carried back to home.

Having visited Pastelaria Chui Heong, I have fallen in love with the best freshly baked almond cakes and egg rolls. Below are both the good points and bad points.
GOOD POINTS:
1. Tasty and mouthwatering. Almond cakes are the best in Macau. Egg rolls are extremely delicious.
2. Traditional, beautiful and eye-catching packaging. All boxes of their bakery are beautifully designed.
3. Friendly, courteous and helpful staff. Two ladies working at the cashier, I believe they are the daughters of the shop owner, are always polite and helpful. They greet customers and thank them for visiting their shop.
4. Clean and cosy shop. All products are stacked and produced in a clean environment.
5. Easy to find. Three years ago when I moved to Macau, I loved walking around and found great eatery without using google maps. I somehow found this lovely shop by the smell of almond cakes and since then, I come to the shop every now and then.
6. Fabulous gifts for our family, friends and colleagues. We always buy almond cakes and egg rolls from Chui Heong for souvenirs. All our family, friends and colleagues love our gifts very much.
7. Our favourite snacks for afternoon tea and dessert.
BAD POINTS:
1. Sometimes the queue can be very long on weekends as Chui Heong is so well-known among Macauese local people and highly recommended to tourists from all over the world. Therefore, you should reserve at least 10 to 15 minutes if you are rushing for your ferry home.
2. You may find it difficult to locate the shop. As it is not very close to landmarks like Senado Square, etc., tourists may not be able to find the shop. However, they can use Google maps or the maps shown in one of my photos below.
ADVICE: You MUST try almond cakes and egg rolls as they are the BEST in Macau!

These were the best splendid almond cookies I have ever had. They were garnished with blanched almonds which were crumbly and
bumped up the nutty flavor, neither too sweet nor too buttery. Excellent!! Authentic "Made in Macau".
The shop is hiding in a small alley. As you turn into Rua do Gamboa, you can ask passers-by for directions. This is definitely a small shop worth finding for delicious authenticity almond cookies!!!

Pastelaria Chui Heong is a small but vey popular maker of almond cookies, a speciality snack food. Many consider them to be one of the very best in Macau. As such, expect a queue all day long. Queues move quickly so don't worry.
One of the reasons to visit Pastelaria Chui Heong is to see the large open space where they are preparing almond cookies. This is really neat if you want to see the process by which the almond cookies are shaped, formed and made before being sold.
Pastelaria Chui Heong can be found on Rua do Gamboa near Praca Ponte e Horta. Opening hours are 10am to 6.30pm daily. They have product card with pictures so you can just point. A box of 10 cookies costs MOP30.

Pastelaria Chui Heong is famous for their almond cookies and other Macanese speciality snacks. They can be found on tiny Rua do Gamboa not far from Praca Ponte e Horta on the Macau Peninsula.
Expect a queue formed outside this unassuming little shop. The line of waiting customers moves relatively quickly so don't worry if you are 15-20 deep when arriving. They will pass menus with pictures (Chinese only text) so you can see what is available and most order rather quickly.
We enjoy the boxes of almond cookies (MOP30 for 10 cookies). The almond cookies are being made fresh on location and you can watch the entire process at the shop. This is just as enjoying as buying from this particularly pastelaria.
As for the taste, there are those who swear by this place, calling it the best in Macau. They add large broken pieces of almond and they do taste good. Personally, not my favourite in Macau but Im happy to eat Pastelaria Chui Heong almond cookies when I can get my hands on them.
Tip: Buy a box or two, take them home to enjoy with bold coffee. They go great together.

Chui Heong has the best almond cookies. We go there every time we are in Macau.
The shop is a bit hidden away but it is worth the efforts to find it. The almond cookies are made fresh on site. There is usually a queue so be prepared to wait a bit. The shop only takes cash.
