The Historic Electric Bureau Building in Taipa
Mar 2019 • Couples
Carmo Hall is a colonial style building in Taipa Village situated along Avenida de Carlos da Maia not far from the covered series of ground escalators that lead to the Venetian Macao.

Historically, this was the General Electric Bureau which supplied all of Taipa with electricity. Those days have long passed. In 2007, the building was repurposed into a multi-functional activity centre for the community, this is how it is put to use today.

The building is teal coloured with subtle exterior features and a column lined porch where you can escape the sun or rain and have a quiet seat on one of the benches which line the outside of the building.

In the end, just a minor attraction in Taipa but something worth a couple minutes if you want to see Portuguese style buildings from the colonial period. Other good examples are found nearby in the five preserved colonial houses that make up the Taipa Houses Museum.

European heritage building in Taipa
Apr 2018 • Solo
Carmo Hall is the former power plant building in Taipa Village. Today it serves as an activity centre for local residents.

What makes this building interesting to see as a visitor to Taipa is its early European architecture and style. There is a column lined porch with a few seats and while the facade is rather simple, it is also interesting to view for a couple of minutes.

This minor attraction is on the small street leading to the Our Lady of Carmel Church and the Taipa Houses Museum. You can conveniently see the Carmo Hall on your way to these popular attractions.

Colonial style building in Taipa Village
Dec 2016 • Solo
Carmo Hall is a minor attraction that can be seen along the Bygone Days of Taipa Village heritage walking trail. This is a teal coloured building located along Avenida de Carlos da Maia.

Carmo Hall is the old General Electric building that remained in operation until 2007. Today this colonial style building serves as an activity centre for cultural events and performances.

There is a colonnade with bench seating along the side of Carmo Hall. This can be a good place to take a seat and rest your feet. There is free gov wifi you can pick up here as well.

Overall, Carmo Hall is worth a couple minutes viewing if you enjoy seeing historical building and are a fan of architecture. If you proceed onward to the Taipa Houses Museum you will see similar colonial buildings that are more interesting to see.
