The Master Lu Ban Exhibition Room is an interesting minor attraction found small Rua de Camilio Pessanha, a few blocks northwest of Senado Square in the Historic Centre of Macau.

This is a 19th-century building which functioned as a Carpentry Guildhall. Today it is a two room exhibition centre. The first room includes a shrine while the second includes an display of over 80 different carpentry tools and implements. There are wall panels with history of Master Lu Ban, the ancient Chinese carpenter from around 500 BC.

This is a good exhibition (free entry) for those with interest in carpentry and something quick to see for those who plan to explore this area of the Historic Centre of Macau. You can conveniently visit in 5-10 minutes.

The Carpentry Guidhall is the ninth stop on the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) sponsored self-walking tour called 'Footsteps in the Historic Centre'. This walking tour explores areas of the UNESCO World Heritage area as well as interesting historic and heritage areas nearby.

The 'Footsteps in the Historic Centre' walk starts at Avenida da Praia Grande, makes several stops at attractions on Senado Square, Ave. Almeida Ribeiro, before stopping to the Carpentry Guildhall and Woodcraft Works of Master Lu Ban Exhibition not far the Tung Sing Tong Clinic on Rua de Camilio Pessanha

Not much to the exterior of this particular attraction which has served as a union trade meeting location since the mid 19th century. Within the building visitors can browse an exhibition room with over 80 traditional tools and implements, representing traditional and ancient carpentry techniques.

The exhibition room is open from 10am to 6pm daily (Closed on Wednesdays) and can be viewed comfortably in 10-20 minutes before continuing onward with the rest of the 'Footsteps in the Historic Centre' walking tour.

If you are facinated about the art of chinese joinery, this is definitely the place not to miss. There is a little room that displays all the traditional woodworking tools used by the chinese craftsman. There is also a video showing how the tools are used. Very educational and informative.
